Day 13: Favorite female character in a book

Maggie (Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal)
Now, thinking about that night with Maggie behind the synagogue... now when I think of that, I want to run away from here, this room, this angel and his task, find a lake, dive down, and hide from the eye of God in the dark muck on the bottom.
Strange.

This is my favorite book ever written ever in the history of the entire world. There are other female characters from other books that I considered writing about, but in the end, it had to be Maggie because I realized how much I loved her character even though the book is a Buddy Book about Jesus and his best friend growing up and she's only in the beginning and the end of the story. The fact that she still makes the impression that she makes - on me, at least - I think speaks to her character and to the depth and care that Moore put into crafting her character.

For those of you not familiar with the book, Maggie is Mary Magadalene, who, in this book, is portrayed as having known Jesus (called Joshua in the book) from childhood. She forms a love triangle with Biff (the aforementioned best friend of Christ) and Josh, except it's not really that much of a love triangle because Josh isn't allowed to "know" a woman (there is some confusion on that point...) and she understands that means she can never have him the way she wants; Josh, on the other hand, does what he can to soothe Biff's stolen heart. It's all very touching and sweet and I love the early chapters that discusses that little kid love, when it's all very pure and important and in this case tragic because nobody is going to get exactly what they want in this case.

We don't see Maggie for a large chunk of the book, and when she reenters the story and we learn what her life has been like... I just. I love this book. I love everything about this book. Maggie is a strong woman, a strong PERSON, and what she endures, the way she sets her heart aside because Josh is more important, the fact that she decides her priorities and then those priorities are Most Important, I love her, and I love this book. I wish more people knew it and loved it, because it's a book that needs love.
