Day 3: Favorite female character in a canon you gave up on
Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach)
Move one inch from here... just try coming after me... and I will never forgive you!
So my NUMBER 1 opinion of Bleach is that I would have been perfectly happy with it being Monster of the Week with Rukia and Ichigo bumbling around Karakura Town bickering over how much Rukia fails at fitting into human society, but then Kubo Tite had to come along and RUIN IT ALL with his PLOT. WHATEVER, plot.
Anyway, Rukia's awesome and hilarious. I love her initial fish out of water story with Ichigo, and I love the tension with her brother and Renji, and I love her tragic backstory and the whole storyline where she faces Kaien's Futurama-esque head in a jar.
I love that she's both strong and vulnerable, I love that Ichigo unabashedly appreciates her for being the first person to give him the keys to protecting the people he loves, and at the same time he's kind of not afraid to bitch with and argue at her. Even though she usually gets her way. I ADORE her and Renji and Ichigo together - when they first break into Hueco Mundo together in the desert, omgomgomg, brilliant. And her sob story to Isshin to allow her to stay in the house? OR, BASICALLY, ALL OF RUKIA'S BAD ACTRESSING SKILLS? Or her terrible art skills? I LOVE IT ALL.
The best remains the very beginning of the story. A boy and a girl with a buttload of magic powers fighting monsters and learning about each other and also kind of driving each other freakin crazy. It was the best story ever. OR ACTUALLY, NO, the best is when Ichigo finds her on the tower and they're confronted by Byakuya and Ukitake and we get the awesome "WHAT KIND OF TYRANNICAL RESCUE IS THIS?!" argument (as seen in my icon). THAT IS MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE ENTIRE SERIES. IN ALL OF BLEACH. NO LIE.
In all honesty, I haven't read Bleach since... a little after Pendulum. Hence the.. given up on canon part of the meme. Sorry, but Bleach is at its best when it's the characters bouncing off of one another and having kick ass fights. Bleach is not at its best when it's chapter after chapter of powerups and Ichigo angst and Espada backstory, which snore. Basically, too long went not only between Rukia's appearances, but Rukia's interactions with Ichigo and the crew, which were the initial backbone of the entire story. Dislike, Kubo Tite.

"That foolish little boy pushed me out," she said. "He dared - why did you give me to him? That child!"
Rukia is reunited with Sodeno Shirayuki post Rescue-Arc. I love the form her sword takes in this fic, and the impatient but grateful way they greet one another.
3. The Idiot's Guide to Rescue Situations by afrai.
What he would not have done was spend two months running around the human world trying to get a ridiculously overpowered jackass kid to lend a hand once in a while with saving his own world from dead monsters. And if it still didn't make any sense how Renji got from point A (crushing juiceboxes and frightening schoolgirls in the course of pursuing his duty) to point B (impending death, with everyone who was anyone in the Thirteen Court Divisions watching the fun) - well, hell, it wasn't like anything else to do with Ichigo made any sense. Logic didn't apply when Ichigo was involved.
Um. Cheating a bit, because this is mostly from Renji's POV although Rukia plays a big role but more importantly THIS IS MY FAVORITE BLEACH FANFIC EVER OUT OF ALL OF THEM. It's an AU switching Rukia and Renji's places, and FUCK EVERY TIME I REREAD IT YOU GUYS I love it so much all over again. It's clever and hilarious and to-die-for in character.
