So you see this aftershock report yes?

Leah and I had just gone to see Sream 4 (which I will talk about in a different entry so people can comment and not fear spoilers) and the movie had just finished. We just left the theatre and we were in the hall when this weird noise started happening and the floor shook and I was like "oh my god, are there ( Read more... )

i'm confused. fire doors sound like the sort of thing you'd want to let do their job.

still, glad for safeness.

Fire doors are supposed to close in case of fire to keep it contained. They are not supposed to close and shut everyone inside when there is threat the building could fall in on you.

Meaning they weren't doing their job.

Probably, but everyone was headed towards the main doors (which are far larger than a back entry anyway, I'm sure) and panicking that they were closing. If they had actually continued to close, there would have been mass panic, not people calmly thinking about other exits. We had our entire city fall down. People aren't calm and rational, they're panicky and terrified. The people who worked there were herding everyone out because the evacuation alarm sounded. No one needs a panicking crowd! So holding the door open, especially since it shouldn't have closed in that instance, just seemed like a good idea.

Occasionally I do make good decisions ;)

Most of the cinemas here are closed and it was a Saturday evening so it was packed. There were hundreds of people all headed towards one door! A big door, but still...

It ended up fine!

It was so mad. It took so long to realise what was happening and then I wasn't freaked out but I was still shaking all over.

I am quite sick of earthquakes.
