So apparently a massive earthquake hit Christchurch this morning an hour before I left Helena (I'm in Salt Lake City, whoooo Mormon Country) and I don't know if my friends and my kitty are alright :( Well, and my stuff, but that can be replaced ( Read more... )

Dad has checked our house and said that Adriadne is okay! A few things fell over and my room is apparently a mess (!) but nothing broken.

Airport is closed at the moment but they hope it will be up again by midday, so hopefully you won't get stuck in auckland. Might be some backlogging though.

Hopefully you'll be able to check this before you arrive home too...

Have managed to check in with most people we know and they are all fine. The worst damage seems to be Cath and Jen's side of town but they're alright. Lots of big aftershocks. Toilets may be more of an issue than power but time will tell. A state of emergency hasn't been declared at the moment but that might change. Have sent you a text but the mobile networks were starting to fail but might be ok by the time you land.

There's bottles of water and that under shelves in the pantry! Hope you don't need that either but they did warn everyone to conserve water.

Love<3

So surreal. But glad we have that earthquake kit, hmm? Sheesh.

Thank you SO MUCH for texting me, Beautiful. You and Alina both saved my sanity.

I'll tidy up so don't worry about that. LOVE YOU!

No problem! Panic is the last thing we want! I'm so so thankful we're on 2degrees because it works in Nimbin and vodaphone doesn't, so I got half a dozen texts when i turned mmy phone on.

Have to go now butsafe travels!

I was actually quite good. I kept myself from reacting until I knew and though I envisioned horrible things, I didn't panic outwardly. Though when I heard everything was okay I had to go into the bathroom stall and have a big old cry from relief.

Love you!

I'm glad! I think I was too asleep to panic properly though I can still now feel, you know, the shock. I am very distracted today. I keep envisioning horrible things even though I know most people are okay. The KAOS 48 hour party is still happening today, even.

Don't worry about picking up stuff in my room, I can deal with that. Oh the photos, though.

Those KAOSians, they party hard.

If you don't want me to, I won't but I don't mind! I won't snoop ;) And I have a week to do it since Uni was cancelled. BUT I wouldn't necessarily want someone messing with my stuff so I won't be offended either if you'd rather do it! Same goes for Leah. Just let me know!

Oh I don't mind the snooping! I encourage people to snoop my books. I just want to see the damage for myself, really.

Fair enough! I might move your laptop out of there. The chair caught your bookcase, thus saving the laptop (AWESOME) but there are STILL aftershocks. I was sleeping on the sofa and one happened and Ariadne had a FIT. It was hilarious.

I did a shop with Peter and Alina (they are wonderful and they fed me lunch too!) and so we have things! I am boiling water so I can fill up the empty jugs with it and put them in the fridge as well. HOPEFULLY by the time you get back the water will not need to be boiled, but you never know. Better safe than sorry.

OMG Barrington had NO bread. Actually none. Not a single loaf of ANYTHING. It was eerie. We went to Coupland's anyway and it's cheaper but seeing it was pretty surreal.

Oh yes, do move my laptop, that would be wonderful :)

Yes! Boil all the water, don't get sick! I'm glad shopping wasn't too much of a nightmare, scary about the bread though but not really surprising. Was tthere still fruit and meat?
