My name is Lara. I love Joy Division, which is totally the most important thing about me. You should also know I am quite sarcastic without having a firm understanding of sarcasm. True story.
I was born in Seattle, Washington, grew up in Kalispell, Montana (AKA HELL), moved to Melbourne Australia in 2003, and Christchurch New Zealand in 2010. I studied half a Bachelor of Fine Arts~Theatre Studies in University before switching to German so I could study abroad in Vienna (2001). Hence, I have studied English, German and Latin at a University level. I have a postgrad diploma in primary teaching and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Canterbury.
I work as a youth worker at an agency focusing on supporting people who experience family violence. I love my job and the people I get to meet and work with through it.
I'll add anyone to my f-list if they ask, so feel free! I spend most of my time writing, talking about writing, or thinking about writing while watching Most Haunted or something Tim Minchin, Hugh Jackman or Dylan Moran related. Or singing. I love singing, and I'm actually good, which tends to help! I can play the flute and the piccolo, the guitar and the ukulele, and I used to play the viola but then I sold it to a 3-fingered man. True story.
I have lived in four countries and visited more than that. My passport is running out of room for stamps, which makes me oddly proud! I love Europe and hope to live there some day as well. I think the world is a wonderful place and I want to experience a great deal of it. As much as I can.
I have reactive hypoglycaemia which means I feel sick pretty much 24/7. If you don't know what it is, look it up or read
this entire thread because a better description probably doesn't exist. It can make me irritable and completely unaware of it, so if I'm being completely unreasonable, I probably don't even KNOW. I am not unreasonable by nature. Just tell me to eat a sandwich. I have issues too. Trust me. It's not you, it's me.
I love stand up comedy, and my favourite comedian will always be Dylan Moran, though joining the ranks with him are Tim Minchin, Bill Bailey, Ed Byrne, Danny Bhoy, Rhys Darby, Ardal O'Hanlon and Simon Amstell. I will talk about this a lot.
My favourite author is Stephen King and I think he is a master of description. I get so drawn into his worlds. I love Harry Potter as well, and The Bronze Horseman Trilogy by Paulina Simons is a favourite. Any mention of Neil Gaiman will receive a loud squeal of happy approval. I collect books of ghost stories and haunted houses because they fascinate me, and I go on a ghost walk in almost every place I visit because I love to hear the tales.
I am bisexual and I don't care if you don't like that. I have a huge collection of books about hauntings and am fascinated by ghostlore. I can't write poetry, but I can write prose. I love cinnamon-flavoured anything. I think red-haired girls are breathtaking. I love green eyes. I'm a Superman fan-girl from way back. I hate the smell of vanilla, but like vanilla ice cream. Stephansplaz in Vienna is my favourite place in the entire world. I wear pajamas 80% of the time and jeans and a sweatshirt when I can't get away with PJs. I love the word 'satsuma'. I am addicted to British comedy and think Americans should never try to copy it; it doesn't translate. I love opera metal and piano rock. I think Hugh Jackman should always wear shiny, gold trousers and always, always be dancing. The Tower Bridge in London might be one of my favourite things EVER. I love dancing in the rain and frolicking in the ocean. I drink caffeine addictively. I am obsessed with history and the nerding thereof, particularly the English Tudor era. I love the colour purple and the smell of roses. I have a compulsion to buy those body butter things from The Body Shop and cannot stop. My DVD collection is epic because I can't watch a DVD without owning it first. I have a hard time throwing things away. I think my nieces and nephews are, quite possibly, the coolest people on the entire planet. I love Star Wars and Star Trek, which I believe makes me somewhat strange. The sadder a movie is, the more I like it. Horror movies are my favourite. Edward D. Wood Jr.'s Plan Nine From Outer Space is epic hilarity. Young Frankenstein is one of the best movies in the world. And if you've never seen Dylan Moran do stand up, you're missing out. I love astronomy and used to study the stars when I was younger. I've always wanted to join the circus, but I have no sense of balance.
And I'm kind of insane.
If you can handle it, then on with the show.
