Stardust

ZOMG. So not like the book at all. And yet, so wonderful. Here's why: I feel like it stayed true to the spirit of the book, and everything that they changed and all the things that happened, I could totally believe as a part of the world of Stormhold that Gaiman created. I actually really appreciated a lot of the changes, such as Tristan making more conscious decisions and choices as to who he wanted to love and how he wanted to get where he was going. I also really loved the way they handled the "Dead brothers", and how the running commentary went and how each of them looked, preserved as ghosts at the moment of their deaths... so someone who falls off a tower is going to have awkward hair and a squashed face. And someone who dies in a state of deshabille is going into the afterlife naked.  *Sigh* I knew getting Neil's work to the big screen wouldn't be a mistake. It's a beautifully realized world, with all its wacky quirks and myriad dangers. Took a long time to get to the happy ending, but when it did, it was definitely worth the trip. And whoever played Septimus is FTW. His facial expressions are brilliant.

Speaking of Gaiman... Oi, JESS. I've decided that in return for the schmoopy Lily/Sev ficlet, I'd like something with Aziraphale and Crowley in it. Because angel/demon bickering-like-old-married-couple makes me smile.  (Note how I did NOT say Az/Crowley, which is a slightly alarming pairing, and not entirely physically possible. Eek.)

Now I'm going to go have a listen to "Where's Neil When You Need Him", which has a couple of lovely Stardust-y songs on it.
