"Life is like arriving late for a movie, having to figure out what was going on without bothering everybody with a lot of questions, and being unexpectedly called away before you find out how it ends."
--Joseph Campbell
It's funny....I've always thought it my bias as a writer to conceptualize and experience life as a bizarre narrative which is so enormous, I am only privy to snippets, and the only way to "get my part right" is to accept that ignorance and just concentrate on being the best expression of "me" that I can be, as authentic as possible (while working with the whole problem of the fact that to play the part, I do have to fool around--and occasionally catch hell--with that pesky concept of "good" and "bad.") I try my best to live in a comedy, which, my friends, does not always involve jokes which are exclusively "funny" in the sense of laughter.....
But I'm becoming more convinced that it doesn't freaking matter if that's "my bias," because the concept still contains valuable insight into the human condition, in a strangely universal way when I am elastic enough in my description. Hehehe, isn't life or human experience just a collection of exceptions? Maybe this is what happens when the universe operates on a "few, simple rules" rather than some kind of Rube Goldberg machine imagination ~~ complexity, as opposed to complicated.
Anyway, thanks to
mythic_journeys for the Quote of the Day, and heads up, there will be a sneak preview of the Mythic Journeys documentary (
http://www.imaginalcellsinc.com/MythicJourneys.htm) at the Plaza Theater in Atlanta on Ponce de Leon Ave. Saturday May 2. Doors open at 7; film starts at 8, followed by a discussion the applications of mythology in our lives.
I hope that means there will be a wider release/viewing this year....
About the film:
Mythic Journeys is an inventive fusion of documentary, story, artwork and animation. Despite the fact that myth has always existed, surprisingly few people today are aware of even the classic myths or the potential myths have to impact their lives. Myths are the reservoir of human wisdom - the story and the meaning of life. Every human being has asked the questions who am I, what is my purpose, why am I here? The answers are in the myths that have been passed on from generation to generation. Mythology is a tool that can bridge cultures, communities and generations. Through this film we hope to inspire people to activism and show that by helping others we ultimately help ourselves.
