(decided I should put something in this journal)
and:
Performed four times (2 percussion, 2 piano)
Gave everyone a moment of unintended comedy by dropping the biggest, heaviest purple gong mallet on the front of the stage while trying to get set up for a piece... (I was like, don't y'all have important conversations to be in, or something else to be doing, instead of watching us between pieces?)
Found a few "back roads" in northwest S.A. that actually help with getting around rush hour traffic... and a few that are even worse than the main ones. Thank goodness I drive a truck that can go, ummm, offroad...
Watched it rain lots and lots, had only 6 people show up to class this morning and gave them a quiz that consisted of: "one question: are you here today? Yes? Good, everybody gets 100."
Went up on stage to the piano and forgot the first line of my supposedly memorized piece. (made it through the hard parts OK though; also the unmemorized stuff was memorized again 10 minutes later when I was no longer on that stage)
and, I'm sure, lots of stuff I can't think of right now... plus the usual...
I have taken on way too much this semester. Like the organ lessons - a good skill to have in life, but not sure if this was the time to do it. (that thing is freaking hard by the way, and I have the utmost respect for those "little old lady" organists now, who are working like crazy even when it doesn't look like it)
Things that are going well or that I want to do more of:
-piano lessons
-observing & helping with middle school choir, and accompanying them on piano
-music theory & ear training classes
-singing, not that I have any official outlet for it right now (and now that I've finally learned how to do it...)
-Schreiner pep band; there's always been that, and there still is, even with the gas prices and having to drive there and back... but it's a good place to be.
Things that are OK:
-teaching chemistry (it pays money)
-organ lessons
-percussion ensemble every once in a while if we're not doing something boring
-education class
Things that aren't my favorite use of my time but that I'm stuck in:
-band (not challenging/ tedious to me because that's the nature of most percussion parts around here, and I've been in college band before and they should let that count)
-percussion lessons
-percussion ensemble during the boring times which are a lot lately
Still hoping to change major to piano and still find a way to be education... I just don't have time to do all of the above stuff and still sleep...
