Has it truly been 2 years since I last updated this? How time flies. So much has happened since my last few depressing posts But given the charlie foxtrot of 2009, I can't say that I blame my past self for such negativity. But things have certainly changed. Many fresh and exciting things have happened. Marriage, moving twice (one being into our new home) and getting a full time job have all happened since my last post.
Jon and I tied the knot on November 20th, 2010. That means that we have already celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. How crazy. It was pretty epic, as I received a $10 Confederate bill in museum quality glass to hang in our office(History nerdism FTW). We bought a house in May of last year and have been in the process of making it into a home. Had it not been for my wonderful teaching job, we would never have dreamed to be homeowners so quickly. As a teacher, I was eligible for the Good Neighbor Next Door program through H.U.D., making it affordable to purchase our first home (it's a foreclosure so there is plenty to be done with it).
I celebrated my first full year of teaching in Nov. 2011 as well. I was lucky enough to get a call in 2010 to take a long term substitute position for a teacher at the school I student taught at. What started as a 3 week sub turned into an opportunity for a temporary position for the remainder of the school year. Budget cuts left me without a renewable contract, but my school found a way around that and low and behold, I was able to apply for another position and essentially retain my teaching job.
So now 2012 enters with a new outlook on life. A positive one for a change. And despite the "impending doom" we face this coming December, I embrace 2012 with open arms and a "Kick Me" sign to tape to it's back.
It's on like Donkey Kong, baby.
