all clear....

we made it through Hurricane Ike relatively unscathed....some minor damage to the house/yard but nothing structural. Power went out around 6:45 am as the sun was coming up but it was restored by 4:30, thank GOODNESS we live right behind a hospital!

from the phone calls I've been getting over the last two days, CNN is making it out to be worse than it is. Yes Houston suffered a direct hit and there is a lot of flooding, but overall they're only reporting 3 storm-related deaths, and all resulting from people doing something stupid

I don't know yet if I have an office to go to Monday, there are results of a lot of downtown high rise buildings having the windows blown out, but so far they've only shown one on the news since I got the tv back. They said on the news earlier today (when I was only able to listen on FM radio) that one of the Enron buildings was damaged, and Chevron now owns both of the Enron buildings and my building (Continental Center) sits right next to both of the Enron ones so it's likely we suffered some damage too....

though if recent history repeats itself, I'll have at least one more paid day off due to the flooding and lack of power to most of Houston metro, they don't like us driving in if the streets aren't clear

Thanks for all the text messages checking in on us! I have received them, but I have been unable to respond. Verizon's network is struggling today
