So i had my advising meeting today, and we hashed stuff out.
1. i only have ONE CLASS left to take. so i'm going to take one in the spring, which means next semester I HAVE NO CLASSES HALLELUJAH (though i will be studying for comps and teaching).
2. for my comps exam, i have to an "area of specialization" section and a "literary tradition" section. So i'm going to do the literary tradition on the fanfiction tradition (squee!!), and i'm going to do the area of specialization on the long eighteenth century (british) so i can actually get a job. :P
3. i don't need to have four committee members. so i'm keeping the two guys on pop lit and i'm adding the dept head (she's an 18th c scholar, AND she understands what i'm doing with intertextuality in the 18th century) and i can drop the guy who's working on sympathy in 19th c amer lit.

this means that beginning this summer, i'm going to be studying things i'm actually interested under the direction of people i like who are supportive of my project. in the fall i'll be teaching two courses and studying under my own initiative. in the spring i'll be teaching one course, taking one course, and studying under my own initiative. then i've got the summer to finish studying and i take the comps test in september '14. then i have two full years of tuition remission/stipend to work on my dissertation (while teaching)--and i don't think it'll take me two full years to write my diss, since i've got so much of it figured out already, and i'll be taking notes for it all through studying for my comps.

THIS IS AWESOME, YOU GUYS.
