HAPPY HOBBIT DAY!!! For those of you not in the know (I wasn't until I noticed it on mormiriel's facebook this afternoon lol) September 22 is Frodo and Bilbo's birthday!

Yesterday I had my first ballet class on campus. The class started with pilates, which I wasn't initially thrilled about. It's really difficult for me (total lack of ab muscles. Plus I had trouble holding my head that far up while doing everything) and she was going thru everything so fast I wasn't entirely sure what we were supposed to be doing. But it's good for me (*b/c* of the total lack of ab muscles lol). I liked the rest of the class. Everybody in there has ballet experience, so while we're not doing difficult combinations, we also aren't having to do the basics. Plus I'm actually getting nit-picked. The knee-jerk reaction to this is irritation, b/c I'm not used to it anymore--I was the most experienced student both in my home studio and in DE so the teachers always concentrated on everybody else--but obviously it's good to finally be getting some corrections. And the teacher (who's a sr dance major) appears to have a very thorough background in the biomechanics of dance, so hopefully I can avoid some of the back and hip problems that plagued me in DE. The only thing that worries me is that the floor of the studio is REALLY hard (not good on the lower back and knees for high-impact exercises [ie jumping]), but I didn't wake up with my back thrown out this morning, anyway.

Went from ballet to night class (we watched The Crimson Kimono--it's a B-film melodrama/noir and on youtube if anybody's curious). Talked to the prof about my problem with horror movies, and he was very understanding and told me to watch it on my own and just skip class that night. He also says he doesn't think I'll have trouble with "Silence of the Lambs" or "Black Swan".

I went straight from film class to swing dancing. However, I have discovered that it's a regular thing that everybody gets kicked out after only half an hour of open dancing. Unfortunately, I spent most of that half hour leading, b/c there were a limited number of guys there and most of the people there were newbies. I'm starting to think I'll just go to their big official dances, particularly since, after you go to their open dancing 3 times, they apparently ask you to pay dues. And if I only get a half hour of mostly leading per week, I don't think that's worth the dues. :P

Wrote up my film response paper today; now I just have my Chaucer paper to finish and my lesson plans to do over the weekend.
