Just found a website:
The Mary Sue: A Guide to Girl Geek Culture. I'm loving the variety of subjects posted about, and also
article titles like "New Trailer For Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Has Actual Plot Information In It". There was also this gem from an article about
affirmative action at MIT:
"Despite an effort to educate colleagues about bias in letters of recommendation for tenure, those for men tend to focus on intellect while those for women dwell on temperament."
I’m sorry, “temperament”? Like when you’re looking for a pet? “How’s her temperament? Because I don’t want a bitchy dog that’s gonna bite my guests.” Another quote mentioned that they look for women who are “neither too aggressive nor too soft.” Because, I guess, women are either too crazy/hysterical/man-hating or darling/weepy/cookie-baking. Yeah.
Seriously, MIT? When you hired your female president, were you afraid her period would attract bears? Or did you, I don’t know, look at her record of leadership and achievement?
Tee hee. Bears.
Speaking of things that made me laugh and I don't know why,
this lol. And its caption.
To round off the humorous quotes of the day: QUOTEBOARD!
Analyzing a digitized magazine image in material culture class:
Prof: And there’s this hand here! What’s this hand? Whose hand is it? Why is it here?
Ash: …That’s your mouse.
Prof: …Oh.
(To be fair, the image looked like this:)
Alix: Oh, Legolai!
Ash: Does that make him plural?
Alix: No, that makes him Jewish.
[she was apparently thinking of Mordecai.]
Alix, on her precise level of appreciation for slash: I refer to Spock and Kirk as the Space Husbands. But I’m not like, you know, “SPACE HUSBANDS!!!!”
Brie, on the various things that were found in medieval books of hours: Need to know how many years out of purgatory you’ll get for this prayer? Maybe your neighbor’s book of hours has an app for that!
And random incident of the day, Alix tweeted Simon Pegg about how her father, who never goes to see movies in the theatre, was going to see "Paul" with her. Simon Pegg retweeted it. She's on cloud nine. :P
