PotC fic -- Outlaws and Inlaws

I'm afraid djarum99 and I are sharing one brain! Though it's not the same story at all, really! *waves*

Last week I posted Swan in Flight, a story with Elizabeth and Teague. Several people asked for more, so here's the next bit, Outlaws and Inlaws. Jack/Elizabeth, kind of, with a lot of Teague on the side.

God, this is so, so wonderful and real. I love Jack and Lizzie's reunion, both of them at their worst and not caring, their affectionate put-downs. And I caught that thread of fidelity and unfaithfulnesss--Teague and his woman, Elizabeth's dream--and Elizabeth's reaction: anger, shame, perhaps resentment. Very interesting, what's going on under the surface here.

James. She puts her hand to her belly where the child kicks. Will would not begrudge the tribute, and William Turner seems like tempting the fates.

It does, doesn't it? As far as I'm concerned, the boy is James. Credits be damned.

She could pretend to need him just a little.

That line says so much. This whole scene is amazing--the intimacy of it is so lovely, even though they're only sleeping together and not sleeping together.

“Flipper Turner,” Jack says, waving his fingers about. “Little webby feet. Chip off the old barnacle.”

LOL...I think this will have me giggling for the rest of the day.

There will be more, yes?

I'm happy you like it!

It hasn't been an easy few months for either of them. But that's really ok. Nobody needs to impress anybody here.

I'm glad you brought that up! Elizabeth resents Teague's woman for Jack, and Jack would resent her, though he knows it's unreasonable. After all, Jack's mother has literally been dead for thirty years! The woman in question is probably fifteen years older than Elizabeth. Jack is not nine years old. Though somehow in his interactions with Teague, he's always about nine.

And her dream and resentment. Only she's not entirely sure who she resents.

As far as I'm concerned, the boy is James. Credits be damned.

*nods* His name is James.

I actually read her resentment as being on her own account as well--she's faithful, so Teague should have to be, too--or something subconscious like that.

And where is the line of fidelity? They haven't made love. There's nothing more than a hug between them. But is this infidelity?

This is such an interesting question in relationship to that curse info (and I wasn't sure if you were using that for canon here or not)--if she's faithful in act but not in heart/thought/desire, does she blow it? If not, what is a faithless act and what is still okay physical contact? What if she loves someone else besides Will, without loving Will any less? I expect and hope to see lots more fics playing with these restrictions...

Yeah, some of that in there too! And her father never remarried, and that's very much how she's seeing Teague. Of course, I have my doubts about whether or not Weatherby was entirely celibate for ten or fifteen years, but they have never crossed Elizabeth's mind.

Right now Elizabeth thinks that Will is gone permanently. And she's assumed she'd be permanently faithful. Only what does that mean, exactly? From not sharing a hug to never forgetting him and stopping loving him ( ... )

Absolutely, positively perfect! I love your version of the J/E reunion- so sweet and funny and realistic. There were so many little details in this piece that I loved, so I'll just share a few:

"She’s learned that seems honest."

Oh, Lizzie. She hasn't changed that much, has she?

'“My James,” she says, and feels the answering pulse, less like tiny wings and more like tiny whallops, like someone very small turning lazy underwater flips, pushing off one side and then another. “My James.”'

Beautiful description.

And it cannot be said how much I loved every bit of Jack dialogue here, especially this:

“And thank you for inquiring after my health. I am in fact not dead, perhaps the only man under sixty in all your acquaintance to be not dead, though formerly counts in some quarters. The Whelp is as well as might be expected, though not as expectant as you, I gather. He doesn’t know?”

Loved it, as I'm sure you can tell, and am hoping that you'll give us MORE!

Thank you! I appreciate it!

Not a bit! Pirate to the core!

Beautiful description.

Thank you! Bouncy!baby.

And there will be more. It's fun to write them this way -- trying to find their respective paths back from the Underworld.

That is utterly utterly sweet, and exactly what I needed. There has been far too much depressing Pirate!Fic of Extreme Angst lately and I was getting really down with the whole thing (hence the Gibbs/Sea Turtle drabble as antidote). I love you for your cheeriness, and for your mind.

I adore Jack and Elizabeth sparring like the best of old friends (which is a lovely prelude to the best of old lovers). I must take issue with poor Elizabeth's ickiness as she approaches her "time" -- not my experience at all, I must say. However, I can accept that it might be like that for some. I like that Jack will stay -- he values her mind and spirit over her beauty by this time.

Great great work here, such wonderful detail, such depth of characterization.

I'm glad you thought it was sweet! There has been a great deal of angst lately, and I needed something more cheery myself! (The sea turtles were fun, though!)

They're kind of acting like old lovers, even though they never actually have been. Which plays into the entire question of what constitutes fidelity. Is this fidelity? They haven't actually made love, but is this level of intimacy ok? Is she faithful? Is Will? Is Teague?

I must take issue with poor Elizabeth's ickiness as she approaches her "time" -- not my experience at all, I must say. However, I can accept that it might be like that for some.

Nor my experience, but then I never got anywhere near 37 weeks with my little preemie! But I've heard plenty of friends gripe along these lines.

I'm happy you like it!

I can vouch for ickiness in the last weeks - i delivered littleMan at 38 weeks, but by then I was already like a manatee on land, and I understand about the breasts! My hair fell out in handfulls during my first trimester, and turned into the Exxon Valdez in the third. Luckily, neither seems to be happening with this one so far..though I've got the acne going on

I'm sorry! I had rather an easy time, right up to the 33 week delivery!

I hope you feel better soon!

And I still love that icon!

This is fantastic. I can commiserate with Elizabeth feeling like a beached whale, been there-done that.

The verbal sparring between J & E is hilarious...pomegranates *snorfle*.

Thank you! She has very nice pomegranates! It must be a nice late-pregnancy ego lift to have Jack flirting, though!
