"Same story, different version. And all of them true." Elizabeth asks Tia Dalma a question, and gets an answer. Jack/Elizabeth kind of.

Spoilers for DMC only, warning for possibly disturbing content.

Oh, beautiful. I just had to answer the phone all choked up (serves me right for reading fic at work...)

I especially love the two paragraphs that begin And maybe he fall in love, love as old as time and end Old magic, sea magic.

This, too:

Nothin’ ever behind, when blood call out to blood, when he have everything in his hands and his kinfolks calling out to him in chains, locked neck to neck in the dark.

The lovely rhythm of Tia's speech patterns here, and the dark things she describes, combine to make me shiver.

Thank you so much! I'm sorry I choked you up at work!

Thank you. I love writing Tia Dalma -- I can hear her speech patterns so clearly.

I, too, dared to read at work - only because it was yours - and tears, oh yes, for beautiful Jack.

You dream them, and you wonder what might have happened if you had.

This is so lovely, and we're still wondering what might have happened. I don't know if AWE will give us any answers, but as long we have fic like these to read it won't really matter.

Thank you! And yes, tears for beautiful Jack. There's something dark under there, in the stories he never tells.

Eee! I love this view of Jack. Or I guess, all those multiple views. No one can ever be sure, can they? But that he was beautiful, that he ran away, that he changed himself, that I can believe. Very nice.

I'm glad you liked it!

He was beautiful, and he ran away, and he changed himself. Those things must be true. But ran away from what and when and changed himself into what are the really fun questions to explore! Thank you for reading!

Slave boy not worth remembering, drowned like a housecat... she call him beloved, and know him for hers.

That's the thing about Jack, isn't it? He's so ordinary, with his fears and pratfalls and lack of trust, blown by the winds of fate as we all are; and he's so unique, beautiful in body and, at his core, a good man. Elizabeth knew that about him, and it's a fine thing to think that Tia Dalma would tell her more.

It's always fascinating to me to read different versions of Jack backstory -- we all have our own, and somehow they are all possible, within our different PotC universes.

This was so good. Thank you!

That is the thing about Jack! *g* A pirate and a good man. I can see him reinventing himself over and over. One thing that struck me in the trailer is that Beckett didn't recognize him. Beckett may have torn Jack's life to shreds, but he doesn't even know him when he sees him. No "you!" *gasp* Just "What?"

One reason I think it's possible to have all the backstories is because Jack won't be pinned down! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
