Election Day

Election Day is almost here, and I want to post one more thing you should consider to do while voting.

Vote for America.

No, no, thats not an endorsement of John McCain's country first. In fact, I mean that in a totally apolitical way - I am not telling you to vote for any party or group. What I am asking you to do though, is not put yourself first.

I hear too many people say "He/She doesn't reflect my views" or "He/She isn't going to help me out when in office." Have you stopped to realize what you are saying? You are judging them on the basis of how they can benefit you. Has it occurred to you that you are one of about 300 million Americans? Do you know how unimportant you are in the grand scheme of things? If your candidate is going to help you and only you (as an extreme case) you are screwing over 300 million people. To be sure, there are many people like you regardless of your demographic in America, but your focus should not be to help just your demographic. Vote in such a way as to improve the life of the most Americans possible. Or, I should say, vote in such a way that will improve their lives according to your personal view. I say this because I think you can make a case that both candidates offer a decent alternative to health care, or that one candidate might have a better tax plan for the nation as a whole.

Please, please, please put yourself in the backseat this election year. This is even more important with our current economic problems. Help as many people as you can and, hopefully, that group will include you anyways.

That said, I have no illusion that anyone will take my advice. We are exceptionally superficial and we vote on things that get us emotionally more than anything else. But please, try to put logic first.

Later.
