Recently I've had an itch to try writing some music, so for Valentine's Day, Stephen got me
Ableton Live 6.
Oh. My. Lordy. This software is freakin' amazing. I can't even begin to comprehend all of the creative possibilities it opens up for me. It is so complex and dense. Let's just say that Ableton is to Garage Band what Adobe Photoshop is to Microsoft Paint. I mean, just look at
this screen cap! In the words of
annaham, "My mind, she is blown!"
While I've been playing around with the software for the past couple of weeks, I've also been listening to a lot of music to see what kinds of compositions I like and I break them down to discover why I think they are successful (which is an approach I've had to drawing for years). You all know how much I love Hindi music. I came across this video and I had to share it with all of you. It is not only visually wonderful, but I find the music to be exhilarating and inspiring. It's from the movie Devdas. I have no idea what the story line is or what people are saying, but production-wise it seems to be India's Moulin Rouge. I keep watching this clip over, and over, and over again. Be warned: it is extremely mesmerizing.

I love what my friend Saul pointed out to me: "My favourite part was the random granny in the midst of what seemed like hundreds of dancers... she looked so precious." I have to say that my favorite part is the random macho-molestache-chewing gum guy, bein' all creepy and machismo about it.
