Coloring Dragon Scales?

So I'm working on a digital art piece of a dragon, a creature which I have never drawn before, but I've managed to get all my line art and such down. So far, it's looking really good. I'm not the best at coloring digitally, however, and I don't want to color the dragon and make the color flat. I was wondering if you guys know of any tutorials about digitally coloring snake or dragon skin (reptile skin overall), or if you have any tips from your experience. All the help is much appreciated!
