So, Sunday afternoon, we basically got hit with a hurricane...IN OHIO. Okay, so it was a pussy kind of hurricane, just Ike's sloppy seconds. But it still knocked out power to pretty much everybody from Cincinnati to Dayton. Our power went out Sunday in the middle of the Bengals game (about 2), and came back on at halftime of the Steelers game (about 10).
Dave's parents just got their power back this afternoon.
laurie_bug still doesn't have power.
We had phone & internet briefly Monday morning, then both went out around 9 a.m. The phone worked intermittently, usually for a couple of hours around 10 at night, then it would go out again. I was internet-less until today. Both are working now.
Didn't get much actual storm damage. One of our drainspouts came loose; we went out in the wind to duct-tape it to the house (this actually worked). Lost a few big limbs from trees, and a shitload of little ones. One of my rose bushes has some canes that are higher than the rest of the bush; all the leaves on those canes were stripped completely off. Yard was filled with trash. Rogue garbage cans roamed the streets. Morning glories sustained some bizarre damage that looks like frost damage, though temps have been nowhere near freezing (maybe wind burn?).
The biggest bitch (other than lack of intarwebs) was trying to find gas. None of the gas stations nearby had power. I didn't have enough gas to get to work Monday. Tuesday morning a couple of places were back up and Dave gassed up my car. A lot of places were running out, though. Total zombie apocalypse kind of stuff.
So stuff is pretty much back to normal now. I finally got my
spn_nostalgia story posted, albeit a bit late. I don't hate it the way I hated the last one, but I still think I could have done better. Kind of "meh" overall.
I do a damn good job of self-promotion, don't I? ;)
Next few days will be spent catching up on reading & commenting. A lot of good stuff got posted while I was living in Frontier House...
