Previous generations had united all Alterians (Ancients) under one symbol but those were in times past. Long ago Alterians had conquered their planet and become the One people: the Alterians.
Altera (earth), had originally been home to thousands of tribes, then hundreds of Kingdoms, dozens of NationStates eventually, finally, inevitabily, they had been United. And as One they turned their eyes to the skies. Some with eyes of curiosity, others with eyes of greed, and the most dangerous of all; eyes of conquest.
In cooperation they had their Mechanisers (engineers?) design and build splended vessels to travel amongst the planetary bodies. But soon it became all too apparent to the Cogniti (scientists or possibly a type of knowledgable politician) that there was a more effective means of transporting matter great distances. They first attempted to slow the bio-physical rythmes of travelers to nearly nil but the ratios (judgment or system, possibly technology) was imperfect. Many of the early travelers awakened to feeble bodies which had aged beyond usage, while they had slept peacefully. Do not pity the infirmed, those who had aged beyond their years were fortunate. In a small percentage of the sleepers the Sopor effect (an early form of statis) was incomplete. Those unfortuate few spent the entire journey aware and unable to move. Those poor unfortuate few went very insane and on the completion of several test journeys, the Doctors (lit. latin instructor) were forced to end their lives in a swift and expedient manner. The Mechanisers were chastised by the Cogniti as is right and proper in the occasions of life lost. That manner of transportation was agreed to be a last resort and all further inquests into the study of Sopor were abandoned.

When Altera had become inhospitable to the Alterians they found it in their best interests to leave the Great Cloud star body (Milky Way galaxy) and begin anew in a near by star body. The star body was chosen for its large availability of stable star systems fit for eventual terraformamentum. (lit. latin land conformation - terraforming?) It was in this star body the Alterians realized that they had conquered everything worth conquering except for themselves. Thus began the new age of the Alterians who in later times renamed themselves Laentians for their great vessel Atlaentis. All Laentians sought perfect of self, but many sects formed when the Synod shattered under the strain of maintaining the Unity of the One people. So the old ways were subsumed by the young.

lux (lou-KSS) and mahio (mah-Hee-o)
They were named Lux and Mahio, like many in the Persuit of Self Perfection they were members of one the Genesiological sects. This sect believed that only through physical perfection could the Ultimate Oneness be achieved. Other sects believed this was possible through contemplation and through having a perfect understanding of themselves. Still others believes that only through ratios could the Oneness be reached, they felt that only through perfect knowledge of the Great Body could one gain Perfection of Oneness. Some Ratios turned their eyes towards improving themselves and in one case a Ratios sect and a Genesiological sect met, found commonality and combined. This was the case of Lux and Mahio.
Their knowlege was judged flawed by the Synod and they were urged to abandon it. They refused and suffered the ultimate consequence, they were abandoned on a Conveyance-free (Stargate) world. Lux and Mahio and their deciples were given essential materials and aged ratios and were wiped clean from the Great Memory of the Laentians.
Many of the Sententia sect claim abilities to see things to come, but truely it is unknown what will happen in the future of the Laentian people, but it is certain they will remain One and True to purpose.
****
There is a new people in the Lesser Cloud star body (Pegasus) and the various sects look upon these people who call themselves the Ephemeri with eyes of welcome and eagerness. Perhaps these new people will be key in the persuit of Oneness.
The Ephemeri are a strange people but the Laentians have met others in the Great Body who appear differently. The Ephemeri and the Laentians are of a height, unlike the Asguard and the Nox. The Ephemeri and the Asguard share a fineness of skin; both have a slickness of their epidermus which gives them a gleam in bright light. The Ephemeri have a fierceness of expression and body like the Furling but lack their hirsuteness. They dress similar in manner to the Nox in natural fabrics and treated animal skins, the Laentians of all sects much prefer artifical fabrics.
***
The Ephemeri contingent is lead by two women: one with hair the colour of a dying star which drapes across her back in a long flow. The other has hair of the deepest blue, like the atmosphere of a planetary body just as you merge with the Beyond. If it wasn't for their palid complexions, which we have been assured is the norm for the Ephemeri, both would suit Laentian asthetics perfectly.
One and True willing, an alliance with the Ephemeri will be profitable for all Laentian sects.

One thin pale hand brushed across the keyboard of Dr. Weir's laptop and closed the screen. The Wraith queen smiled her eternal smile; picked up the laptop and walked out, stepping over the dessicated corpse that was once Elizabeth Weir.
