We decided to spend Labor Day by visiting the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. We had gone there 2 years ago in preparation for our trip to Egypt, so this time we decided to concentrate on the Indian art. The gallery for this was pretty small, but they had a few pieces that were really outstanding. There were some exquisite
ivory sculpture. They also had some really nice carvings taken from a temple. I have seen pictures of temples with thousands of these carvings on them. I go into sensory overload when I see these things, so it was really nice to see just 2 of them.
After we finished the Indian art we looked at the temporary exhibit of art noveau jewelry, which was also very nice. Many things in both these exhibits were so tiny, I really had to look closely to see all the details.
After lunch we went upstairs to the European art. We had not gotten to see this the previous time. The collection was not large, but had many top quality pictures. I think my favorite was Van Gogh's
Houses at Auvers. Michael liked Renoir's
Dance at Bougival.
