I'm not really sure what I do to deserve all this. For the past few years my dad, stepmom, and I have made a habit of going to the Denver Renassiance Festival. It's actually soemthing I look forward to every summer just because it's that much fun. Who wouldn't like a day in the mountains watching vaudville acts of all different types that range from comedy to music to sword swalloing (sp?) and even to hypnotism along with a big jousting match TO THE DEATH at the end of the day in a huge arena? Seriously, it a great day... not to mention those turkey legs that they sell for lunch.... MMMmmmm (sorry Julie). Where was I? Ah yes. As much fun as I do have on this day of days the past two years have left me with..... I don't know who to describe it..... so I won't. I'll just tell you, and you can make up your own mind as to what I should have done in each case.
So two years ago it was toward the end of the day, and we were headed to the jousting match to see the our barve and noble night fight for the King. I was full of turkey and thought I would head into some stores before the show started. That particular day I decided to wear a Thundercats shirt because.... well, because I just like that shirt. I walked into the nearest shop and the girl behind the counter looks up at me and says, "I have underwear just like that." Later my dad told me that I should have ask her, "Well, can I see them?" But at that moment I was caught off-guard, so I couldn't think of the appropriate response....... I don't remember what I said exactly..... That's all I could think about for the rest of the day...Everywhere I looked I saw Thundercats... I didn't see the girl behind the counter, just the underwear... And let me tell you, knights fighting in Thundercats underwear somehow takes away their glory and..... well, testosterone (sp?)
So this year I prepared myself. I was on my guard everywhere I went. I was ready to take anyone up on any offer they might throw me... ok, so maybe I wasn't that bad, but I was on the look out. This time it was early in the morning almost right after we got there I was walking next to my dad and the rest of the group was in front of us. We all walked past a shop that sold little shoulder puppets. We walked by a girl that was trying to coerce (sp?) people into the store by nudging them in the face with the little puppets wings. Everyone on front of me walked by her, as do I. I made it maybe five steps after I passed her when she yells back at me, "Hey?!"
"Yeah?" I say as I'm turning to face her.
and with the most expressionless face I've ever seen she asks me, "You wanna make out?"
...... I think for a second (with my dad right next to me, watching me) and I tell her, "Not today."
She acts about as expressionless as she was seconds before, shrugs her shoulders, and turns around to herd others into the store. I then turned back around with my dad grinning next to me, knowing how much fun he can have with this bugging me later.
If I had not been with my family on both accounts I think things might have gone differently, but seeing as that is not the case. I'm just curious if anyone else has ever been caught off guard like this, and how it turned out?
Tomorrow I'm going to the Denver Art Museum downtown, and then I'm going to hang out in the strip mall till my dad gets off work to take me home. Call my cell if you need me. Till then, take care.
O, and I finished Harry Potter today!!!! man, what a great ending!!
