Why do you love art so much? It's what I use to get the thoughts out of my head without having to resort to words.
What kind of art do you do? Surreal, introspective fine art & deranged character design.
Are you or have you ever been an art student? I was, I graduated & refuse to go back for more schooling.
What are you doing with your life, career wise? I'm a freelance graphic designer & illustrator, living the dream. I also work for Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School and run my own art collective where I curate group art shows. The group is called the Blood Dumpster. I'm looking to get into prop making/design for movies and music videos. Anything that gives me a chance to dance my fingers off.
What was the best art class you've ever taken? The best as in, my favourite was during college, where I took an Animal design class - basically I spent a semester studying animal anatomy & making strange paintings about the creatures in my head with one of my favourite teachers ever.
The best as in, significantly useful, was a class where we spent 3 hours sitting in a circle of desks, having a minute timed to hold an object in our off hand and then draw it with our drawing hand. After 1 1/2 hours of this, we switched to having to draw with our off hand. It was the most horribly frustrating thing ever but any drawings of hands I do now are impeccable.
What was the best art assignment you've ever had? See previously mentioned class. Otherwise, my favourites were always editorials - read an article and provide an accompanying illustration. My favourite of those was an article about the mating rituals of flies. I like bridging ideas, words and imagery.
What is your art inspiration? Most any of the pop surrealists - folks you find in Juxtapoz & other west coast art publications
Who/what are some of your favorite famous artists/works of art? (pictures/links welcome!) Raft of the Medusa by Gericult has been a big part of my life in random ways for the past few years. I have a print of it tacked to the ceiling above my television.
