Why do you love art so much? There's just something about the arts that speak to me. They bridge time, cultures and languages.
What kind of art do you do? Drawing, watercolors, silkscreen, ceramics, some acrylic painting, some sculpture, some digital photography, playing a musical instrument, a couple of domestic arts (crochet and sewing), and the occasional teaching of visual art.
Are you or have you ever been an art student? In high school and several years in college.
What are you doing with your life, career wise? As an artist, I've sold a couple of pieces and exhibited in a couple in s/f con shows. As an art teacher, I worked as an artist-in-residence with an art non-profit, along with teaching private art lessons and working in the public schools for several years. I just recently started a new career in arts administration and gained part-time employment at museum.
What was the best art class you've ever taken? As an artist, I had an excellent visual concepts class with Bruce Marsh, and a solid grounding in silkscreen printing with Janice Hartwell. As an art teacher, the independent study course I had with my mentoring teacher.
What was the best art assignment you've ever had? As an artist, I can't remember one particular art assignment being the best. I am partial to assignments where I can use either a full gray scale or advanced color work. As an art teacher, the best assignment I ever had is a toss-up between an elementary afterschool ceramics program or a middle school art club.
What is your art inspiration? Usually nature, color, travel, and children at play.
Who/what are some of your favorite famous artists/works of art? da Vinci, JMW Turner, Monet, Van Gogh, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Yoshitaka Amano, Georgia O’Keefe, Dave McKean, P. Craig Russell, and Charles Vess.
Show off some of your favorite pieces you've created: Probably later.
