Dear shipswap author,
I am beyond excited if you have indeed chosen to write for one of my requests! I hope the following letter can give you an idea of what kind of reader I am:
I like happy fic but I am rather squicked by excessive shmoop or fluff (I feel it is always hard to stay in character with those); I generally (but not necessarily) like to have it laced with some angst or pining. I like having the characters' motivations/personalities explored, I subscribe to the showing-instead-of-telling mentality, communicating through details, and slow build-ups. I love seeing characters care for each other even if they have trouble properly expressig it themselves. Asexual interpretations are welcome, so do not feel pressured to include any sexual content; I can enjoy that, too, but I usually avoid full-on NC-17 stuff, feeling more comfortable with the PG-13 rating. I enjoy AUs but not crossovers, and I would not really be keen on gernderswapping for the pairings I requested. (However, I have written a rather large amount of post-apocalyptic/end-of-the-world fics recently so I'd prefer it not to be those particular AUs, should you decide to write one.) No rape or dub-con, no emotional or physical abuse (of the characters towards each other), no PWP, no mpreg please.
Dan Smith/Kyle Simmons (Bastille (Band)): What can I say, it's the fucking OTP, and there's barely any fic, so honestly, anything you'd choose to write would send me over the moon, probably. If you're writing an AU, this is the pairing I would enjoy it with the most. (Sex worker AUs and single dad AUs (with Dan as the character in question) are definitely my guilty pleasure.) I put this pairing through a lot of angst and suffering, so something as innocent as a pizza delivery boy AU would also be totally welcome. In terms of character exploration (if this is an objective of the story), I'd prefer it to be about Dan rather than Kyle, but in terms of POV I would enjoy either one. Dyle is their ship name, btw.
Dan Smith/Danielle Haim (Bastille (Band)/Haim (Band)): There is no fic or traction for this ship that I know of, so I'd probably enjoy something simple founded in the friendship of the two bands the most. Fun and cute stuff during festivals and recording sessions, y'know? I can also imagine Danielle being pretty badass and kick Dan's ass a lot.
Capa/Mace/Cassie (Sunshine (2007)): I'm intrigued by this combination stemming from the Capa/Mace, Capa/Cassie and Cassie/Mace dynamics we get glimpses of in the movie, and I want to know how all three of them would work together. (I imagine a lot of gritted teeth and quiet solace.) I'd love to see their background stories explored, watch them meet and prepare for the mission, or watch them build a life back on Earth, whether Icarus II was successful or not. I love thinking of Cassie as just the right link between pragmatic, eyes-on-the-mission-only Mace and somewhat head-in-the-clouds (in the stars?) Capa.
