Peter Jackson Clashes With Unions Over The Hobbit

1 hour ago FilmShaft.com

Who’d have thought such a little guy could cause so many problems? In yet another bad turn of events for the troubled production of The Hobbit, it seems that Peter Jackson and his fellowship may have hit some trouble with the acting unions. While the project has yet to be given the green light from New Line Cinema and the ailing MGM, popular consensus was that the movie would soon be gearing up to go into production. So close yet so far!

On Friday union reps from the Screen Actors Guild, Canadian Actors Equity, Us Actors Equity, the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance of Australia and Britain’s own Equity sent out communications to their members, warning against accepting work on the film! The message read thusly:

The makers of feature film The Hobbit - to be shot in New Zealand next year - have refused to engage performers on union-negotiated agreements. »
