I'd like to detail the things that have made life worth living to the fullest lately. You can feel free to skip over it, because I am about to gloat like hell. But I just feel the need to get this outta my head and appreciate it in front of me! It's gonna be a long ass entry, so hold tight.
.// I have new ideas for my job at the UU church: Reviving the dying youth group with a curriculum that entails bringing in outside people to run workshops. The theme will be personal identity and how it affects the world you live in/the work you do. Two of these workshops that are in planning mode are: A screening of the documentary AFROPUNK (afropunk.com), which addresses black identity within the punk rock scene (a liberal but racially homogenous subculture), followed by a activities and discussions based on the film and the creation of a zine (this was developed by someone else-- not me!)
Also, Urban Word, an org that does poetry/spoken work workshops with high school aged youth, is interested in coming in for 4 sessions and running two workshops: Art & Social Justice, which addresses activism through poetry and performance and another one (can't remember the title) that deals with religious identity through creative writing. The idea, provided the youth group is interested, would be to end the sessions with a performance night/day to share their work, and invite the congregation in order to give the youth some legitimacy and exposure as valuable members of the church community. WHEW. I also have a few friends with amazing ideas for workshops as well.
I'm not forgetting the kids though... I have ideas there too (one including an art show that a parent wants to take responsibility to put on!!), but they aren't nearly as exciting to share.
.// I am leaving Job Path next week, which is really pretty sad. I love this job like nothin'. I'm wrapping up the summer's projects and everything has been so successful. Not to brag, but people here really feel I've breathed some new creative life/energy into this place and that feels really great to know. I can't WAIT for the art show I organized September 9th. You should come! This guy's work is unbelievable! If you need info, let me know! This kind of work fills me up, if you know what I mean.
.// Reconnections with old friends. Wonderful nights spent on a beautiful rooftop with sunflowers and gardens grown in kiddie pools. Drinking Stella and watching the sunset over the BQE with quiet laughter and good company.
.// Jen just emailed me and asked for my help writing an article on the "no girls allowed ideology that surrounds rock music in general, but particularly having a genuine love of the music." (Jen's words.) Oh man, SO right on!
.// Having a best friend who sends the most beautiful emails about how much he loves me. A new thing for him.
.// Loving the people I've chosen to surround myself with. Creative, motivated, smart as hell. Glad I've cut off the not-so-interesting ones. Excited about my new self-proclaimed "work time email buddy," the project coordinator for the aforementioned Urban Word agency. Cara, I have you to thank for that connect!
.// I'm gonna be featured on this website's splash page:
http://www.wsdia.org Go check it out! I'll post a link when I'm on it. I'm thinking of labeling what I do as: "humanitarian rock star/professional dogooder/graphic designer"-- whaddya think? Yes, it's supposed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek. Better suggestions welcome. All I know is I can't write this: "grapic designer/consultant for adults with developmental disabilities around art/religious education director at unitarian universalist community church of ny." UM, it is way too difficult to explain my jobs in a title!
.// Craving alone time again, though lord knows when it will happen. It's nice to know I have a desire to spend solo time. I'd like to smoke that spliff on my dresser, listen to Dig Planets and make a zine. Alone alone alone. Can't wait.
.// Sweet boys are nice, even when they are essentially unattainable. Which is actually a good thing because I am in no mood to give up my independence anytime soon.
.// I'd really like to experiment wtih recording some spoken word. Does anyone know any amature producers who make beats and stuff?
There is more. But I am boring you to death. Hello LIFE !!
