general ramblings

When did updating LJ become such a chore? Going on IM too. It used to be my life, and now I can hardly remember to.

Rock climbing seems to have taken over my life to the point of being the main highlight of my week. Which is so weird, when I think about how I used to (and I suppose still do, to a lesser extent) identify based on my complete non-athleticism. I can climb 5.8's relatively consistently and did a 5.10- once, which I was ecstatically proud of.

Becca likes having people to show off to, and seems to get along with my (or Rai's) friends better than most of her own. I think I've mentioned this before, but I love how we've actually been friends again since I left school. I just wish I could be as close to my dad....

I finally started trying to organize my room today, mostly because I needed to clear off a surface to put the scanner on. A couple days ago, I realized that if I had the scanner in my room, I might actually scan stuff on the rare occasion I actually draw anything. And since I'm the only one who ever uses it, no one cares if I move it. Thus, it is now mine.

It's funny how much more welcoming and "mine" my room feels since I've moved my laptop into it. And how much that makes me want to actually organize it so I can have it feel even better.

I've recently discovered/remembered that we own Painter Classic from when we got the first tablet in 2001. Apparently, it has some bug where having too much memory makes it think it doesn't have enough memory and not run. But googling pretty quickly turned up something to fix it, so now it works. And now I'm completely in love with it. It would be infinitely cooler if it had layers or could remember more than 5 steps back or had something in common with Photoshop other than JPEG, GIF and BMP (features which I believe exist in non-"classic" versions). But it feels somehow "smoother" than Photoshop, though that could just be the newness. There's this exciting feeling the first time you try drawing in something new where it just works and it looks great and "artistic" and you're just drawing squiggles, but it works and you can feel all the potential for insanely beautiful awesomeness just at your fingertips. Before you realize that drawing lines and shaded circles all artsy-like does not equal painting a masterpiece. But I did draw a mermaid:

Because painting turquoise on black is fun. (Drawn with only one line.)

Shading's fun too.

And an icon that looked better in my head:

So yes. I've finally updated. :D
