Huuum, I should totally change the LJ layout. But I'm too lazy now. When I go back to Athens. I'll also make a better banner with either Onew, SHINee or U-KISS. But I'll leave it aside atm. So finally, I decided to make a mini review of the new Arashi album. You'd better read it y'all cause, damn, typing in my destroyed keyboard is straining! >_<
Let's gooooooo *travels to the rainbow side*
Moving on - The song that greets us when the album starts. It's a nice song that grows on you as you listen to it more & more. It's not something special. Arashi have done songs like that in the past but it's easy to listen & pleasing to the ears. I particularly like Sho's rapping part in this.
Mada ue wo - Amazing song. One of my favorites in the album! Totally different from anything they've done in the past & definately a pleasant surprise! I had said in a previous post that they should do oriental & I still abide by that. While Mada ue wo is not completely oriental but, rather, gypsy music, it has a certain oriental feel to it. I think ethnic styles suit Arashi & they should explore that part in the future. The quirky gypsy violins blew my mind! If I were to grade that song I'd give it a 10!
Refrain - Nice song but...how to put it... kinda forgettable. I've listened to it so many times & I still cannot remember how it goes to sing it afterwards. The sunao ni narenakute part makes me think that it's a song from that trainwreck of a drama with the same name (only Jaejoong kept me until the end... I don't even want to remember it...). Definately something that Arashi have sung in the past & not as good. Boring? Yeah... But it's nice (oh god I can never be too harsh with Arashi, can I???).
Troublemaker - Ok since it's a single song I shouldn't really review it but... here we go... I loved that single! It's happy Arashi but not the very very typical happy Arashi. I thinks it's the violins? Also the playful lyrics & the fact that it had an awesome PV? Also I loved the drama it was a theme to so... I'm too biased with this one! Let's say that it's my favorite from the single songs in this album.
T.A.B.O.O. - Oh God! Sho's solo! He's still my bias, although he's not my no1 in the fandom anymore. The song is sexy but he should probably lessen on the English in the beginning cause he's making me giggle. Sho's a genious writer in Japanese but he sounds too funny in English (Sorry Sho it's true). T.A.B.O.O. is cool but something doesn't click me this time. I don't know what though cause trust me, the song IS good & I like it a lot more than his previous solos. If someone could just point out what I'm missing... :/
Circus - The best song in this album (for me)! Yes, it's THAT awesome! The title & the music go hand in hand! Dark & burlesque at the same time, it definately brings a circus in my mind (and my mom just said it's one of the best songs she's ever heard fyi) & it should have been a single with a big budget PV. Maybe in time it'll become my favorite Arashi song as well. Mind blowing! I'd give it a 20 out of 10!
Gift - Ballad!Arashi in sight! They don't sing those as often but they do a good job when they do. Gift is beautiful but typical Arashi ballad style. Still I like this one as much as their previous ballads. It's kinda heart wrenching when they sing like this for some reason... so however typical it gets me! Dammit... T.T
Everything - Another single song. When Everything came out last summer, I found it very soothing, albeit not one of their best singles but I like the summery tune & the imagery it creates in my mind.
Come Back to me - Hey there Jun's solo! What to say about this song? I love it! The use of the vocoder actually does justice to the song & gives it a very modern tone. Let's not forget that Jun is not the best singer around ok?? AND IF I HEAR SOMEONE COMPLAIN ABOUT AUTOTUNE/VOCODER/WHATEVER IN SONGS ANYMORE I'M A CUT A B*TCH! It's the trend nowadays, ok? Get it? Move on then & stfu! All in all great job Jun bb! It's a good song to dance to this summer!
My Girl - Oh God this song... It'll forever remind me of the drama & the sweetness that was Aiba with the little girl! Also the tear-jerker of a PV it had... It's sad & heart warming at the same time. Songs like that make me kinda emo so I should probably lessen the times I listen to it!
Magical Song - Aiba oh Aiba! What nonsensical things are you singing about again? I crack up whenever I listen to the MAJIKARU SONGU that Aiba sings about. His English are so epic! I swear I'll never take this song serioulsy ever for that reason! It's delightful & fun although I like it less than Hello Goodbye & his previous solos in general.
let me down - The last song of the 1st cd. Disco feeling & sexy vocals. I particularly like the Ooooh yeeeeh vocals in the background. It's one of the songs I like but don't go crazy about in this album. Still I'd rate it with an 8 cause it's great to dance to & sometimes Arashi sound like they're cumming (LMAO)!
On to CD2 now!!!
Monster - And here's Monster to greet us! You know, despite everyone & their mother pissing their pants about this song I'm not that fond of it now that I think about it. It ticks me off that the music starts off with a dark feeling & does some really happy turns at some points. I wish it kept the dark feeling throughout. But even so, I don't hate the song. The bridge with the waltz is brilliant to say the least & the lyrics awesome. BUT don't get me started on the PV that could have been epic & was a recycling of Truth & Believe. I hate Arashi PVs lately... D:
Don't Stop - Again disco song! I guess because it's summer now? I always associated that kind of music with summers for some reason. I like it less than let me down & it's not something I'd call memorable either. But it's perfect for summers near the sea with a coctail on your hand. ;P
Shizukana yoru ni - Ohno's solo! I have never ever been disappointed in his solos & he delivered this time as well! He's got the voice & songs like this one suit him. It's got an rnb feeling & I'm totally in favor of Ohno doing some solo rnb work. Something like Matsushita Yuya's style. Anyways, this song is my jam from this album. Simply beautiful & my favorite solo of the 5 by far.
Mukae ni iku yo - Retro Arashi song? Well, yes, it's retroish. It's relaxing & gives off a summery sunset feeling. If you don't get what I'm saying try to listen to it when the sun sets during your vacation. It's very fitting in my opinion. I quite like this one but it doesn't stand out like other songs in the album.
1999*4##111 - Is that supposed to mean Arigatou or sth Nino dear? Whatever! Cutesy Nino song this time! Very rare considering his ballad-emo songs past. But since Gimmick Game Nino has kinda cheered up? I guess! Anyway, it's a jazzy, breezy song that lifts your spirits. Dare I say my 2nd favorite solo song. I love the piano & the gospel-like chorus & of course Nino's voice that's made of cute! Awesome dear gamer!
Sora Takaku - The fabled Saigo no Yakusoku finally in full HQ glory! If I hadn't brainwashed myself with this song's radio rip in the past I would probably not pay much attention to it now. But, as with most Arashi songs, it grew on me & now I love it. Though, yes, it's not one of their best songs.
kagero - Finally, another awesome song! The title alone is beautiful enough to make you think that the song is beautiful as well. And it is! It has some asian music influences but it blends them with modern sounds & the result is astounding. This song also gives off a summery feeling but it's different from the others. It's mostly an end-of-summer feeling if you know what I mean.
Summer Splash! -How fitting for the end! This song is a spot on summer song. Cute & disco (again) with hip hop influences. Although I didn't pay much attention to it in the beginning & it still has to grow on me, I have a feeling I'll be dancing to it in the future.
Generally, I think Boku no miteru fuukei is a great album that did not disappoint the 2 year wait I had to put up with since Dream "A"live. It's definately the most summery album Arashi have released so far & while there are some less memorable songs, for both an Arashi fan & a casual jpop fan it provides a good & enjoyable listen. It's not my favorite album (Time will forever hold that spot imo) but it's definately better than Dream "A"live.
Ah wow! It's huge! It took me a long time to compile but it was fun. And, wow, I realised that my Arashi stanning has lessened. I can be more objective when judging their songs now! It's not all sparkle & rainbows. I grew out of my 80s/90s/jpop phase I think!
Ok I wanna do the review thingy again! So next up will be SHINee's Lucifer that, I'm afraid, will be extremely subjective as I stan the hell out of them lately! ^^'
Well cya mates! Going to work out now!
