So about five weeks ago, my aunt left one night, telling me she had to take my grandma to the hospital. When I got home the next day, she told me it wasn't a big deal and that my grandma was just dehydrated. Then she told me that my grandmother was having kidney problems. She's already had problems in the past. One of kidney's wasn't working properly and the other was having problems. I went to visit her in the hospital the next day. There was no definite diagnosis, but that she could have one of two different illnesses. The x-rays showed damage to the kidneys as well as several other organs. Needless to say, I was very sad. My grandmother was also like a mother to me at one point. I lived with her for a small portion of my childhood.
When I walked into her room, the first thing she started talking about was death and how we all have to go some time but I tried to not talk or think about death. I told her about Viki because when I used to live with her at the age of eight, this one time I was sad thinking about how much older my grandmother was than me and started crying cause I was scared she was going to die soon. She told me she wasn't going to die until I was married and had kids. I told her about Viki because I am sure she is the woman I will eventually marry one day and I wanted her to meet her when she visits. I told her about the dinner and she said we could have the dinner at her house, which was a great idea.
That night I went home and cried and prayed for my grandmother and was depressed for about a week.
You know how when something tragic happens, it brings people together? Well, such is not the case with my family. My aunt got into it with three of my other aunts, plus my mom. This was so close to Viki's visit. So she wasn't on speaking terms with any of them, to say the least. That, coupled with my grandma's lack of recovery (for like two days) compelled my aunt to tell me to set the dinner somewhere else, which saddened me cause I was looking forward to having it there and had already made plans with my sister. So, three days before Viki's visit, after I had already told everyone planning on going that it was switched to my Mel and Mike's house, my aunt was trying to tell me that I'm GONNA have the dinner at my grandma's house, the problem was that I already invited everyone my aunt was fighting with and I wasn't going to uninvite anyone so I figured I'd still have the dinner at Mel's house and we'd stop by my grandma's house so Viki can meet her.
More drama between my mom and my aunt left me without a ride. I was going to drive my mom's car to pick Viki up. This happened at 1:00AM, three hours before I planned on waking up to get ready to pick up Kim and go to Austin. We were gonna meet up with Nicky for breakfast, have a photo shoot, watch a movie, go to the grocery store, and head to Mel's house so we can cook together.
INSTEAD, right after I found out, I had no means of driving to Austin, I called Kimm then Viki. We decided I'd go to Austin on the bus and come back with Viki. I took a cab downtown and tried to stay up the whole ride to Austin. Shortly after I got to the bus station there, Viki showed up and I got to meet her father, briefly. I gave Viki her necklace while we waited for our bus. Kimm picked us up downtown near the bus station and we went to have breakfast at Picante Grill with Nicky. It was very wonderful to have breakfast with my closest/best friends and the woman in my life.
After breakfast, Kimm dropped us off at my house. We gave each other some gifts we had got each other, I was VERY anxious to give her box to her and show her something I got her a while back. We took some much needed rest, I had only thirty minutes of sleep and she didn't sleep good either. Then my sis came and picked us up, took us to the grocery store. We visited my grandma for a bit then headed to Mel's house.
When we got there, everyone had been waiting for us so we immediately started cooking. It was the first family thing I had done in a while and I really enjoyed it. I had a great time cooking with Viki. She made her bow tie pasta and I made my fettucini. She also made mozerella and tomato salad. Everyone loved her and everyone loved our food.
After dinner, my sis, brother in law and I dropped Viki off at her hotel in Austin and I got ot meet her mom, very briefly. It was nice riding together in the back seat. The traffic was really bad so we had an extra hour together. So things didn't work out as planned. We still had a wonderful time together :)
