Cissie had been pleasantly surprised to find that a class taught by Lex Luthor didn't have the mountains and mountains of homework she'd been expecting. Emma had been in the midst of a routine tussle with the bookshelf when the outburst caught her attention. "I hope you don't mean that literally," she said to the girl. She'd never cared if a conversation was meant for her ears or not. "I don't doubt it's true, but we don't need to give this place any ideas, now do we?"

Cissie looked over at the voice and winced. "I really should have said that better, shouldn't I have? If there's a zombie invasion or something, it'll be all my fault now."

"But no, I meant the kind of old, dead people you read about in history books. This book is so boring I think I can feel my brain dribbling out my ears."

From what Emma had heard, it wouldn't have been the first time, for that matter. Moving closer, she glanced at the book. "What's the subject?" she asked. "I don't suppose there's any chance this thing would cooperate long enough to give you something more interesting covering the same material." Like as not, she probably wasn't even trying. Most people didn't, seemed to expect things to fall into their laps, and Emma would have been surprised if that weren't the case again here.

"Greek, Persian and Macedonian history," Cissie said promptly. "I thought about that, but the bookshelf is being nasty today - I mean, not like it isn't, normally, but it keeps giving me stuff on archery. Nice, but it's so not what I need right now."

"Maybe I should threaten to shoot it. You think that would work?" She was kidding, mostly, but the idea was very tempting.
