So... I didn't get the job.
I'm kind of OK with it? I mean, it fucking sucks I have to stay at my current school but... the other school didn't turn out to be so 'dream.'
The interview was so fucking bizarre. The people there were... rude? So I was asked to arrive for 09.30 and my interview wasn't until 10.15... then only lasted 10 minutes? And I sat to sit on a freezing cold, cramped seat in reception for 45 minutes for no reason- I mean why not schedule me to arrive at 10.10 or even 10.00? Everyone walking past just ignored me, they didn't smile or say 'hello.' Any child walking past looked like a dead-eyed zombie, they had no spark at all.
Then (it gets weirder!) my interview was done (by the vice principal who was emotionless and a school governor who was plain rude) at 10.25 I was told, "Oh, your teaching isn't until 1.00 p.m. you can either wait in the faculty lounge or go and come back..." I was like ..? Why couldn't you have scheduled this better? Anyway, my Nan lives down the street so I went to hang out there for an hour and a half then came back to set up my lesson. I worked really fucking hard on my lesson but the kids didn't respond to it well and I didn't really gel with them or the para. IDK...
And the principal wasn't even there?! What kind of school recruits a teacher without the principal being present or choose the right person. And the principal and vice-principal are married... I feel like that would be quite uncomfortable and unethical...
I left and called my mum/dad and had pretty much decided by this point it was so not worth it to take a temp job there and have no money... no matter how hideous current!school is at least my job is permanent and I can afford to go on vacay and buy things (both cool like theatre tickets and necessary, like tampons) if I stayed.
I was pretty relieved when I got the call to say I didn't get the job. My friend got it instead but she is a parent at the school and on the parent-teacher committee- so I think it was pretty much a done deal anyway and overall an epic waste of my time as a result.
So I'm pretty fucking disappointed...
