Roosevelt High School, Seattle.
"Every year on this date since 2005, a district high school has had a false fire alarm," the email reads. "Every year, lit candles have been found under the sensor. Please be alert for visitors and conduct extra hallway sweeps today."
Evan closes the email, leaves his desk for the hallways, nods at teachers and students. he ensures that the security cameras record him going into the gym.
From there, Evan crawls into the ventilation shafts. In the library storage room, he sets seven candles underneath the smoke detector. He lights them quickly.
"Happy birthday, Riot," he whispers. "Miss you."
With that, he slips back into the ventilation shaft. The cameras will see him coming out of the gym again.
