The sky was deep blue, fading into a brilliant red just above the horizon. The lake perfectly mirrored the contrast in hues, and fireflies flitted in the marsh. Kayan and the other Karayan children sat still (for once), anticipating the show that was waiting for them, once the fading light of the sun disappeared. They were all too young to remember the long summer evenings during the recreation of Karaya, when the villagers would build large bonfires and trade stories and experiences. During these evenings, Hugo would sometimes spin fire, enthralling young and old alike. Now, those evenings were among his dearest memories of his village.
Kayan, unable to contain his nervous energy any longer, raced towards Hugo. "Manje?" he asked. The other children's voices chimed in.
With a last look towards the castle, Hugo chuckled and nodded. "Manje." Kayan squealed with happiness, and rejoined the other children.
Anyone who came by the lake tonight was in for a treat.
