* Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done ( Read more... )

Just so you know - last Monday at session (Irish music) my friend brought his baritone uke and absolutely KILLED us all with the fantasticness of it. Jeebus that guy can play!

The bari uke is really a terrific instrument. I think it's more democratic than a guitar in that it lets you *hear* other instruments and voices along with it.

does your friend have any recordings?

He does - but it's mostly celtic stuff - he plays bass in a celtic band here. I'll send you a link. He did just do a solo album - I haven't bought it yet but I will pretty soon.

Celtic is good, I'm looking forward to hearing it.

well, clearly, attacking your mugger is really a very bad idea, but I wasn't thinking well at that moment, beyond I am going to fucking KILL you guys! Anyway, I only got one hit in before the hindmost guy ran away, but he left my bag of stuff with my wallet behind. :) I think if his cohorts had waited for him it would have been a much messier ending for me. as it was, I got out of it with a fat lip and a black eye.

the flag icon was created by the wonderful scotchbonnet and you should feel free to acquire it yourself, mon petit. There seems to be a problem at present with her insanejournal, but her lj name is scotchsour.

how you doing, kiddo? life going okay?

I might sell it for the Moonridge Auction if I finish it in time. I want to offer something but I'm notoriously bad at delivering fic on demand. :)

Well, it's not pretty, but I was living in Jersey City, NJ at the time, right down the street from the Hudson County Jail.

Three guys jumped me in the alley by my apartment. One held a knife in my back (a teeny one, I think--it didn't feel big) while another hit me a couple of times, shouting stuff. The third guy took my bag after I fell down. I got up and chased after them yelling I was going to kill them. I was a little out of my head. The third guy was slow and I caught up to him, hit him just as he turned, and he dropped the bag. His friends were way too far ahead at that point, so I guess me telling him "I'm going to fucking kill you, you motherfucker" was off-putting enough to make him run. Heh.

I think, in retrospect, I was a goddamned idiot. It wasn't until later I figured out he wasn't the one with the knife, but I didn't know that at the time. A monkey had taken over my brain.

Moral of the story: move to San Francisco (which I did, just two months later.)

You were really lucky that it didn't have a different ending. :( I'm so glad that it didn't. *sigh* Still, the anger compelled you, I'm sure. My mom did a similar thing, in Cleveland, once. She and my father had gone to the theatre and were going for a meal, after. A *guy* tried to snatch her bag and she wouldn't let go and started yelling and screaming at him. She actually managed to run him off in the end. Without her bag. Still...I was horrified when I heard the tale. I can't remember why my dad wasn't with her when it actually happened, but she still prevailed.

Personally, I've not done any of the three (now four) things you've listed. ;)

*hugs you*

Oh, and...oops. I just remembered that I owe you fb for your teeny!Ray story. which I loved, btw. I've been freaked the past couple of days because my desktop died a final death. :( Luckily, my computer guy was able to grab some (vital) files for me that weren't mirrored on my laptop - although most were. Thank god for my laptop. I'll make a note to myself. *nods*

Heh. It was beautiful. HE was beautiful.

I was working as a volunteer security guard at the Swimming and Diving venue (USC) for the '84 Olympics, and was patrolling my "beat". Greg had just won his fifth medal and was still dressed in his post-dive track suit. He had all five medals arrayed on his chest--two on top, three on the bottom--and was taking the back way to a press photo-shoot thingie, and I had just picked up some trash and dumped it in the bin and was spinning around and whammo! He was very, very sweet about it and I was guh!he smells like chlorine and his hair is still wet, YUM.

To this day I sincerely like the wet look, is all I'm saying.
