Had it really been almost a month since Kaylee'd woken up in this place?
Somehow, it seemed just yesterday she'd dozed off in Serenity's engine room, expecting nothing less when she woke up as another ailing part to fix. Serenity hadn't been in good shape - Mal's refusal to buy any new parts for her made it next to impossible to keep everything running smoothly as it should. And now she was without a mechanic.
She sure hoped Serenity was okay. Kaylee remembered how bad she'd felt when the catalyzer blew...if Serenity was broke, if that was why they hadn't come for her yet, she only had herself to blame.
Should've kept better care of her, before...
Shouldn't've got kidnapped in the first place.
But she was keeping busy - not counting the busy with James, of course, though that'd been good too. Every day she'd do something little, like try the doors again, or hurl her wrench at a window. That'd only bounced off and nearly dented the floor, though, so Kaylee'd only tried that one time.
Now, she was just sitting in front of some windows, staring out the glass - or whatever it was - tapping the wrench against her knee and looking thoughtful.
It was just a matter of waiting, really. Waiting and hoping. Not that she needed hope. Serenity'd come.
Eventually.
