It has been an eventful week in my little world. On Saturday I took my tractor out and did my yard and my neighbor's. I had done my across the street neighbor the week before. This time I did my next door neighbor. Their backyard was a jungle, but I bush hogged that sucker. Loads o' fun. I love my tractor. My neighbors think I'm off my rocker.
Then Sunday Robyn and I went riding. This was my second time and we had a great time.
I rode a western saddle this time and was MUCH more comfortable, and just felt more in control in general. Blaze and I are getting to know each other. Mainly he's getting to know what a bad rider I am, and I'm getting to know what a smart and devious horse he is. Anyway, this was Mother's day and it was beautiful. A bit hot, but on the trails in the woods, it was cool and shady. Very nice. I only almost fell off once.
Blaze tacked up and waiting patiently, getting his feet done.
So after an hour or so, we stopped by the house, dismounted and got some water and snacks and rested for a few minutes. Then mounted up and headed on. We picked up Cooper, Robyn's son who is 4 and wanted to ride with Mama.
Coop on Saphira
So after awhile we got back to the barn and got everyone untacked and brushed down, and were heading out of the pasture. Robyn and Coop were up ahead of me.
Long story short, Topaz, the youngest of the horses wanted some treats Robyn was carrying and wouldn't take no for an answer. She ended up kicking Robyn twice. She got Coop too, but he wasn't hurt, it just scared him. Robyn's ankle is broken, but good. She was kicked in the head, but luckily she was still wearing her helmet. If it had been me, I'd be dead because I had already taken mine off.
The Culprit. Trying to look pitiful as we ride off and leave her.
Needless to say we spent the next several hours in the emergency room. She'll have surgery to rebuild her ankle on Monday. Bless her heart, it's been hard, and I'm just sick about it. It was such a good day up to that point. It could have been so much worse though, so we're grateful. Happy
f$in Mother's Day!
When we finally got her chap and boot off, it wasn't as gory as I was expecting. I was expecting protruding bones. There are 2 broken and 1 crushed bones.
Then Monday I left my new car (yes! new car!) to have leather installed.
I had told them what I wanted and what I didn't want. What I didn't want was that perforated leather that you see in sports cars. The kind with the little holes in it. It's just me. I've never liked the look of it and I see grime getting down in those little holes. So I told the sales person, and then when I left it on Monday I told the service manager.
When I left it they gave me a free rental of this little POS chevy from Hertz. Miserable! Crappy car. When I went back on Wednesay to pick up my baby, the Hertz lady was rather rude so I was pissed anyway. Then when I saw my car, I lost it. Since I had explicitely said NO PERFORATED LEATHER! then the last thing I expected to see in my car was PERFORATED LEATHER!
I was PISSED!!! I let loose on the service manager, then went inside and did the same with the sales manager.
They're not bad, just not what I asked and paid for.
Of course now they're falling all over themselves to make it right. The next day I found out that Toyota doesn't even DO non-perforated leather! No one seemed to know that! Now they're going to have to job it out to a custom second market company, on their dime of course. I'm hoping to get a custom leather steering wheel cover out of it as well. So far, they're treating me like my last name is Toyota, so maybe...
Tuesday I had my mamms crammed and grammed. 6 months after an abnormal one last year. All is well there so far.
On the way home from work Wednesday I had to detour because of an accident and ended up driving by my old nursing school. It was after hours but I decided to go in and walk around anyway.
Our class picture is still hanging in the hall.
I'm on the bottom row, 7th from the right. Robyn is on the 2nd row, 8th from the left.
Here is the lecture hall. Many hours spent here.
So, an eventful and educational week. I've learned that I must adopt a whole new respect for horses, and the unpredictability thereof.
I've learned you don't trust car salesmen as far as you can throw them. Yeah, I know, I'm a late bloomer. And I've learned that if you play your cards right, you can make a car dealership kiss your ass, and maybe get some bling in the bargain.
