you are so... odd. IN A VERY GOOD WAY. i mean. that alternate, darker side of mermaids (that give me the images of lobsters with giant claws and fish in spiky armours and topless mer-hunters) and undersea kingdoms and hunts for tentacled beasts... that is made of so much awesome the sheer awesomeness overwhelms me.
i'm thinking that maybe she has a personal vendetta against that one elusive beast. because maybe when she was a rookie hunter, her whole squad was wiped off in the middle of a routine hunting expedition by an unexpected attack from that beast. she was the sole survivor, having been ordered to escape when her seniors were trying to fend off the beast (guh redundancy D:), and no one believed her account of the accident. because the wraith-beast is considered to be a myth and THERE'S A WHOLE SECRET PLOT AND EVIL SQUINTY EYED POLITICIAN MER-PEOPLE INVOLVED IN IT AND THEY DIDN'T WANT THE EXISTENCE OF THE BEAST TO BE PUBLICISED. (...i guess i got too caps-happy there). she had to go through rehabilitation, got transferred to a much inferior squad and had to work her way up the ladder amidst scorn and ridicule. so she made it a goal to hunt down and slay the beast that had wrecked her life.
oh oh oh! and maybe the mer-hunter that told her to escape? WAS HER SISTER. CUE THE ANGST AND EMO AND SELF-HATE.
