the broken child and his sword
#01 - Comfort
- Wabisuke can see right through Izuru; can see the broken heart and the unshed tears and the crumbling will - he wishes he can take his master in his arms and chase Izuru’s fears away.
#02 - Kiss
- It’s not necessarily something significant, but Kira presses his lips onto Wabisuke’s hilt every time he heads into battle - he finds that he fights better if he does that.
#03 - Soft
- The first time Renji stares in disbelief at Kira and Wabisuke’s Shikai form, from his position of an undignified sprawl on the muddy ground, the redhead can barely contained the “the fuck did you do to Zabimaru?!” that threatens to escape his throat.
#04 - Pain
- Whenever Ichimaru Gin shatters Kira Izuru, Wabisuke is always there to pick up the pieces and put them together again - his greatest fear is that one day, the pieces will be too small and it’ll be impossible to bring back his master.
#05 - Potatoes
- Izuru loves cooking, and Wabisuke loves watching Izuru fluttering happily around in the kitchen, even when his dignity is on the line; a zanpakutou should never, never ever be used to open cans of pickled potatoes.
#06 - Rain
- They stand firm and regal on the battlefield, as Kira finds his strength once again in the middle of the rain of blood.
#07 - Chocolate
- “If this sticky brown thing kills me, please tell Ichimaru-taichou that he snores.”
#08 - Happiness
- “Wabisuke, speak to me.”
#09 - Telephone
- Communication is never a problem to them - silence speaks of everything that needs to be exchanged.
#10 - Ears
- He listens patiently as Izuru speaks, listens to the veiled pain and longing and confusion, speaking nothing in return, because he knows that Izuru’s whispering secrets to him, whispering soft words that will not be shared with anyone else but him, and he cannot risk missing even a syllable.
#11 - Name
- “Speak to me, Izuru.”
#12 - Sensual
- Wabisuke remembers Izuru’s thin body better than his own birth - every scar, every blemish, every imperfection - and if there is something that he believes, it is the simple fact that those flaws are the epitome of Izuru’s sensuality.
#13 - Death
- There is something pleasing about the way people react over death, and Kira allows his eyes to flutter close with a long sigh as Matsumoto and Hinamori and Hisagi (is Ikkaku there too?) shake and yell and scream at him - Wabisuke is already waiting for him inside the silent void of inviting darkness.
#14 - Sex
- Kira blinks owlishly at the materialised form of his zanpakutou and can’t help but marvel at how beautiful of an ornament blood is on marble-pale skin and starched white kimono and if it’s possible for a male (can the materialisation of a zanpakutou be categorised as one?) to be so despairingly pretty.
#15 - Touch
- If Wabisuke is given a wish in exchange with his life, he would wish to be reborn as a proper shinigami, so that he can finally touch Izuru like he had wanted to for so damned long.
#16 - Weakness
- He allows nightmares (cold fingers and laughing eyes and smirking lips and shades of shimmering silver) to haunt his dream, to manifest inside his mind until he can’t think of anything besides them, but Wabisuke is always there, always patient, always smiling… always cold, so cold.
#17 - Tears
- Wabisuke acknowledges the fact that he is not - and will never be - a sufficient substitution of one Ichimaru Gin to Izuru, but as long as he can keep the smile on his master’s face, it is enough.
#18 - Speed
- Everything is a blur of adrenaline and fear and excitement in a battle, and Kira muses at how quickly he loses himself once his spirit fuses with Wabisuke in the heat of the lethal dance.
#19 - Wind
- He wants to fly, to soar towards the far blue sky and leave behind painful memories of smiling lips and treacherous words but Wabisuke remains his firm anchor to the harsh reality.
#20 - Freedom
- “Live for me, Izuru.”
#21 - Life
- “Die for me, Wabisuke.”
#22 - Jealousy
- There are times when Wabisuke envies the relationship between Zabimaru and Abarai-san, Hozukimaru and Madarame-san, and (as unlikely as it is) Shinsou and Ichimaru-sama; but when Izuru smiles at him, the envy dissipates as soon as it comes.
#23 - Hands
- Izuru’s hands are the most fascinating thing to him - the callousness and strength that comes from hours of gripping the hilt is a direct contrast from the delicate appearance of the limb itself - and Wabisuke longs to intertwine those fingers with his.
#24 - Taste
- Kira hisses into the darkness as Wabisuke’s silver blade slides quietly along his upturned wrist, hoping to satisfy the zanpakutou’s inquiry as to why Ichimaru-taichou likes making Kira bleed at any given opportunity.
#25 - Devotion
- Their faith in each other is an unspoken contract, perfectly understood by both and quietly carried in a multitude of intricate gestures and soft-spoken whispers in the darkness.
#26 - Forever
- Kira stares at the gilded book of fairytales on his lap and wills himself to believe in the pretty, pretty illusion of ‘and they happily ever after’s, even though he knows more than anyone else that loving Wabisuke means facing future prejudices and proclaims of impossibilities.
#27 - Blood
- Izuru looks beautiful, with specks of crimson complementing the perfect paleness of his face at all the right angles, and Wabisuke cannot wait for the next Hollows-For-All Massacre Party.
#28 - Sickness
- Unohana-taichou smiles gently as her eyes spot the sleeping form of the Third Division’s vice-captain at the far end of the infirmary, clutching at his sword even in his drugs-induced slumber.
#29 - Melody
- As much as Wabisuke loves Izuru, he wishes that Ikkaku would stop egging on the blond to indulge in drunken sing-a-long - apparently, the Eleventh Division’s member know nothing of Izuru’s horrible lack of rhythm.
#30 - Star
- Kira vaguely remembers consuming a copious amount of sake, Ikkaku’s invitation for him to join in a sing-a-long, Hisagi-senpai’s bare chest and the bar top; the rest of his memory is pretty much fizzled beyond recognition and Wabisuke has refused to say anything concerning the party last night.
#31 - Home
- If home is where the heart is, then Kira isn’t quite sure that it’s wise to live inside a sheath for the rest of his life.
#32 - Confusion
- Wabisuke doesn’t know what this… feeling… is, and he doesn’t think that it’s normal for a zanpakutou to harbour something beyond loyalty to one’s master, but he can’t help looking at Izuru and letting the feeling grows out of control.
#33 - Fear
- He is not that strong, physically and mentally, in comparison to the other vice-captains in Gotei 13, and he is afraid of a lot of things but as long as Wabisuke is with him, he can continue fighting those fears and live.
#34 - Lightning/Thunder
- Kira loves the storms and cracks of thunder that rattles Soul Society during its season, because it gives him a reason to stay indoor and observe the raging downpour with Wabisuke’s pleasant warmth as companion.
#35 - Bonds
- “I will always be here for you, Izuru.”
#36 - Market
- Now that Ichimaru Gin is no longer around in Soul Society, Wabisuke finds that Izuru is the centre of several shinigami’s affection - the zanpakutou fumes quietly when Renji offers to carry the grocery for Izuru.
#37 - Technology
- Kira nearly had a heart attack when Akon, from the more obscure departments with vague relations to Gotei 13, approaches him and demands to know if it’s possible to have sexual intercourse with one’s zanpakutou to affirm the story he heard from a certain loud-mouthed blonde woman.
#38 - Gift
- He multiplies his opponent’s weight, forcing them to bow in humiliation and despair in front of his master, but Wabisuke wishes that he can stop the multiplication of the weight that continuously drags Izuru down.
#39 - Smile
- Kira sighs happily as Ichimaru-taichou pets his head and tells him that he’s done a good job, oblivious of Wabisuke’s hums of distress from Shinsou’s suffocating embrace.
#40 - Innocence
- “I shall kill him.”
#41 - Completion
- Two graves are built upon one revenge, and Hinamori bows her head in respect as she presents a bouquet of fresh flowers (the memory of a flash of smile, a softly-uttered “Hinamori-chan, don’t you think that white roses are so… pure?” and Hinamori fights down the urge to cry) to the fallen vice-captain of the Third Division and his faithful-till-the-end zanpakutou.
#42 - Clouds
- Kira stares up at the clear, bright sky, pressing a hand over a large wound that won’t stop bleeding - even as members of the Fourth Division frantically tries to mend the horrible damage - and murmurs, quiet enough that only Wabisuke can hear him, “Such a beautiful day to die, ne?”
#43 - Sky
- They stand side by side underneath the inky blackness of the night sky, listening to howls of wind rattling the barren trees, and Wabisuke takes Izuru into his cold, cold arms, murmuring undying devotion and faith to the broken blond.
#44 - Heaven
- Neither of them believes in ‘happy ending’.
#45 - Hell
- Kira wonders what’ll happen to a shinigami when they die as he pens down the daily report (a rookie was killed, another one heavily-injured), but he figures that as long as Wabisuke is there with him, it wouldn’t have mattered.
#46 - Sun
- Izuru used to be blinding, bright with hopes and ambitions and expectations, and Wabisuke will wait, will wait until Izuru shed no more tears for someone who is no longer there, and returns to that blindingly bright young man he was.
#47 - Moon
- He often sits out on the porch of the Third Division’s living quarter if there’s a full moon that night, because he knows that Wabisuke will come for him, and Wabisuke looks absolutely ethereal underneath the flood of silver moonlight.
#48 - Waves
- It almost feels like drowning, like he’s being sucked into a whirlpool of sheer power, and Kira steadies his shaking hand, staring in wonder and awe at Wabisuke’s Bankai form.
#49 - Hair
- They shares one thing in common - both Kira and Wabisuke have a certain fascination for the shimmering shade of silver, either silky, unruly hair characteristic of a certain eccentric captain of the Gotei 13, or the metallic finish of a Spear God.
#50 - Supernova
- Wabisuke knows that Kira can be as brilliant as that giant star in the sky, but the zanpakutou wishes that the moment will not arrive too late, not when Kira is facing Death itself.
