"Daniel!" a deep voice boomed across the expanse of the white marble hall, causing the very pillars to shudder under it's timbre.
"Yes father" a quieter voice answered, as a young man stepped into the light. He appeared to be in his late twenties with dusky blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes that were cast sadly upon the floor. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about him was the pair of giant downy wings protruding from his back and resting on the ground behind him as he kneeled.
"Well, did you find her?" the voice continued, this time more insistently as he waited with baited breath for his son to answer him. "Come on boy, I haven't got all day," he finished, as Daniel breathed out heavily considering what he was going to say next.
"She went down to the surface again father," he stated simply, hearing a gasp from above him which he guessed could only have come from his mother.
"What did you say?" the voice of his father boomed through his ears in rage, making Daniel cower like a babe under the strength of his displeasure.
"There was nothing I could do to stop her," he started to explain. "You know how she is, constantly restless and far too curious for her own good! She wanted to go and explore one of those human nightclubs down on the surface. I said she wasn't allowed to go but she snuck off whilst I was dealing with a disturbance on the perimeter.."
"And..." the voice continued, growing impatient."
"When I returned, I realized what she had done and I immediately set out to find her before anyone realized..or before she got herself into mischief, but I was too late. When i reached the surface at the place where I detected her conscience it suddenly disappeared, as if she were...you know." He stated lamely, wincing as his mother's sobbing increased. "But she wasn't! mom, I swear she wasn't, I could still feel her but only faintly and moving further away by the second. When I got inside I realized why."
Daniel chanced a look up at this moment and saw both of his parents waiting expectantly with baited breath for his answer. His father wasn't going to like this one bit, it would spell trouble for everyone.
"When I got inside, it was as if I had stepped into a nightmare. There was blood and death everywhere, the whole place stunk of evil and after looking at the victims I can tell you that they took Arizona under the surface." He looked up at his parents mournfully, his blue eyes connecting with their's as he spoke his next sentence with deliberation. "There were puncture wounds on the necks of the dead father. It was without a doubt the work of vampires."
Daniel cowered as a colossal fist slammed into the side of the wall, making the building shudder, his mothers wails pealing through the air like a bell. After composing himself after a moment, his father looked at him straight in the eye and commanded him "Go son, gather a small task force of the best we have and venture down to the earth. The vampires will not get away with this, they know if anything, anything at all were to happen to your sister it would mean war." Daniel nodded in understanding and took off into the air with a run, flying outside into the sunlight as his father looked down towards the earth sadly, his head in his hands. "Oh, my daughter, why are you always so attracted to the the things you cannot have."
