About Myself
My name is Arpine Esmailian. I have been attending Glendale Community College since 2003, and I am transferring out in Fall 2005. I am 21 years old. When I reached high school, my life took many twists and turns because I moved to United States with my family.
After a couple of weeks of living in America, I started attending high school. My first day of school was very different from what I had experienced in my country. I felt alone as I did not know anyone. Since my English was poor, everyone doubted that I would be capable of finishing high school, let alone attending college. As I walked across the stage during my graduation ceremony, I realized the true meaning of hard work. After graduation I was very frustrated because I had difficulties enrolling in community college. However, while out of school, I used the time to do volunteer work within my community. No matter what situation I was in, I considered myself lucky to be living in a place with countless opportunities. I am glad that I had the chance to do volunteer work, because it put me on the right track towards my career. Volunteering with children made me certain what I wanted to do with my life. The pieces of my life were coming together as I could finally attend college and concentrate on my career. Although I encountered many difficult times, such experiences have made me the strong person I am today. As I look to the future, I am optimistic that I will be able to face all difficulties I may come across.
