“Pen. When did I ever care about what others say?”
He’s right, of that she’s sure. She still worries.
“Love, to be honest… The others won’t understand.”
Desmond won’t have any of this. He’s a man. He’s been in the army, all right, certain things happened, but he’s been there. And he has to keep his manly pride intact.
“The manliness is exactly what they’ll contest”, Penny tries again.
“Let them.”
His decision has been made. Let them gossip, let them waste their time on his choice. He’s a free man, and a Scot, and a brave one with that.
Desmond steps outside wearing his father’s old kilt.
