Matters of the Physical Heart

For those I left wondering over what the hell the last post was about.

In 1994/1995 I was diagnosed with a heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. This is a form of tachycardia, or an elevation of heart rate. By 2001/2002 after the decision not to do anything about it, because it hadn’t interfered greatly with my daily function, I opted for the surgery to correct the issue. At this point I was beginning to black out during any episode.
The surgery preformed was a heart catheter ablation. Normal procedure takes one to two hours. Mine was six and a half. While in my heart they found six pathways, or bundles of Kent, that needed ablated. Five of the six were successfully removed. The sixth was at such an angle that it was imposable to remove. The two doctors decided it was safest to not try any further and inform me of this after waking up from the surgery. They informed me that they saw no further complications of WPW even with this minor pathway sill intact. Although a chance of an episode was still there because of this lingering pathway.
Last night as I was sitting playing a game of checkers with Jared my heart started racing. For over twenty minutes my heart rate was close to 200. Not normal. It felt as if this was a resurgence of the WPW. It could be something else but who knows.
My next step is to have this checked out…and how I’m going to go about doing that.
