The night before Caleb and Terra’s wedding, I fell asleep the fastest ever in about 3 weeks. It might have been due to the bottle of light fruit wine that Terra, Heather and I polished off… but the sleep itself was fitful as I woke up at 3am, went back to sleep and woke up again at 5.50am, after which I simply stayed awake until the alarm rang at 6.20am.
After that it was full steam ahead - and amidst all the hurrying of changing, styling, gatecrash games, photo-taking, travelling (to and fro between his and her houses), it was amazing that we somehow always seemed to be ahead of time, or just on time. Is that unheard of for a wedding or what?
Anyway. Apart from the embarrassing stupidity where my weeks-ago nightmare came true and I actually did forget to tie the elastic bands inside her gown before buttoning her up (all those crystal buttons! OMG!), and a couple of other trivial upsets concerning the hotel room booking, the sound system/engineer and the photographers’ attitudes, the entire day went so smoothly… miraculously smoothly. Everything according to plan, ahead of or on schedule… just beautiful.
There’s so much I could say, and I wish that I could be poetic and lyrical about it all, but somehow… I just feel that the most precious moments to me, that day, were the snatches of time where it was just her and me, or me watching her and him together… It has been 6 years since they began their journey, and watching them finish this part of it and start a new path is just… beyond words.
I didn’t cry, even though I felt close to it at times. But I felt so, so proud of them both, and so thankful for how God has held everything, and them, together, and how He made everything work out so beautifully - down to having fireworks explode into the night sky at just the right time.
And I am encouraged to believe for miracles.
To finish off, here’s the song Elessar and I wrote and presented as a special item/gift to the wedding couple. Interesting how it seems to have been prophetic.
All That We Have
Through the years we’ve walked together
Side by side we’ve weathered storms
And through the years to come we’ll ever
Praise the One who keeps us strong
Here today we find each other
Poised for more great years to come
And day by day the path grows brighter
As hand in hand we journey home
What could I have done to earn your favour?
What could I have said to merit your love?
All that we have is His hand upon us
Our Father of perfect love
Who are we that have His favour?
Who are we who bear His name
But for the grace that bears us onward
To endless life, His love to proclaim
What could I have done to earn your favour?
What could I have said to merit your love?
All that we have is His hand upon us
Our Father of perfect love
celebrations,
parties,
miracles,
songs,
contemplations
