Hamelot

Yikes, the new Camelot is a pig's ear.

Why do they get talented creatives to invent fantasy clothes for historical programs instead of someone who's read a book on the subject? Or seen a documentary? Or had a ten minute conversation with anyone who knows anything?

Cut for a very minor spoiler )

why do they do that? it's like they shrug, say "ah heck, let's go fantasy" and just throw all to the wind. as if time period outfits and armour weren't cool enough? which, IMHO, they totally were! there's a REASON I love the medieval times! you know, leather, swords, armours..? *grins*

:-)

I guess they had a hard act to follow with 'Merlin', so they didn't try. I suspect all but the die hard geeks are still happy: on one hand, all the hand wringing and shouting, silly fighting & costume and cheesy direction, one the other Tamsin's knockers. Result!!!

I had high hopes when I saw the opening shot of Uther's fortress - low stone walls, lots of mud: very C6th, then I noticed the hall in the background. It is a replica, in unpainted wood, of the controversial 60's design competition oddity, the round Roman Catholic cathedral in Liverpool or, as we locals used to call it, 'The Wigwam'. Like all good 60's buildings it's already had to be half rebuilt because it was leaking and falling-down, so not a bad model for some Dark Age warlord's hovel (if we didn't already know they looked almost exactly like the Riders of Rohan hall in Lord of the Rings).

Quite inaccurate, of course, really that shapes more of a 'teepee' ;-)
