Fact is, I'd cut my own throat if it would help almost anyone I know. Then why can't I put forth a fraction of that commitment to help myself?

word. what the fuck is up with that? it's like...you'd take someone else's test if it meant they'd get an "a", even if it meant you'd fail a class.

Then again you have to really sit and think about why you are helping someone else. I'm not one to believe in "there is no such thing as a selfless act" shit, but I do believe that the easiest way to escape our own problems is by focusing on another persons. By helping others you are actually boosting your self image as the hero and martyr. Just step back and think about it all. There are moments where selfless acts are possible, yet rarely are they from well calculated planning. Devote time to helping others because they might help you in return, but also find ways of helping yourself. There is no need to be either a fake martyr or a egocentric asshole.
