The retrogressive thing is from Maddox. First of all, I just don't care enough about people to care if a bunch of semi-humans are killed. Second, abortion provides a direct, measurable benefit to society. The rise in abortion is directly correlated to decline in violent crime over the last forty some odd years. By reducing the numbers of unwanted children, abortion ensures that more of the children that are born are born to loving, prepared parents. In fact, one of the best things we could do for children, despite it being a massive breach of the parent's human rights, is to make abortions mandatory, except in cases where the parents can prove that they're financially and mentally prepared and commmited to raising children. One of the biggest determining factors in whether or not a child will grow up successful is the finincial security and personal commitment of the parents. This is partly why I have such a hard time with people who think that homosexuals shouldn't be able to marry or raise children. If a homosexual couple is getting married, they're doing it with a full understanding of the act, not out of social expectations. Also, if one thing's a certainty, it's that homosexuals don't have accidental children or even children on a whim for that matter. I know first hand (though admittedly I was 2 at the time) that the adoption process is a long and scrutinous one, and while I can't say for sure, don't think sperm banks hand out frozen semen pops to anyone who walks in the door. This ensures that homosexual couples who have children truly want them and are prepared to raise them. To think that this is somehow worse for children than being born to a single teenage mother who got knocked up in the back seat of a camaro on prom night and who couldn't get an abortion because Jesus sez every sperm is sacred, is just ludicrous.
