hahaha. yeah. it was fun.

he was totally cool. he was trying to seem easy-going but admitted to being extremely neurotic. he was very ... linnell-esque, as you would imagine.

the occasion was their new CD/DVD set that teaches kids the alphabet. so, aside from a normal interview ("is it weird playing for a roomful of kids? is it harder than an adult show?" etc.) I asked him if we could come up with "The ABCs of Staying a Band for 20+ Years" and he was into and thought it was "a cool idea." But coming up with that stuff on the phone was hard, so I kind of assigned it to him like homework and he emailed the final product to me the next day. ha!

I did not tell him about the guy I know who is in the documentary, nor did I let him know that his band is largely responsible for my 10-years-and-counting friend group. I had already said some nice things and didn't want to be too superfan. but funnily, yesterday, sundance was showing Gigantic! and I watched with great nostalgia. When "Ana Ng" came on, I was very moved by thinking back to the period when TMBG occupied at least 50% of my time spent listening to music.

I remember the second time I saw Gigantic in the theaters and I almost cried when Ana Ng came on as I was overtook by great memories of all my friends in late high school.
