Name: Tori
Reason for Joining: I've been in the AO2 fandom for a while, thanks to a friend, and I lurked around here a bit, but with nothing to contribute I never joined. BUT NOW, now that I do have something...
Fave. Character: BESIDES the boys (with an - it appears to be - unusual inclination towards Rios) and despite his short, short appearance in The 40th Day, Brezhnev has become close to my heart.
Why: He's so amusing! They fit so much vitality and personality into his character with the short span of time he had. He had all of a quarter of a level of spotlight, yet he was bantering easily enough with Salem and Rios through it. Plus, he's the first one who said out loud what everybody else HAS to think about our golden boys. (On a related note: I notice he calls Rios something during the stage - I'm guessing it's some sort of Russian nickname, given he uses it more than he actually calls Rios by name. Anybody got ideas what it is?)
Least Fave. Character: Jonah.
Why: Two words: SHITTY ULTIMATUMS. Also boring.
I COME BEARING GIFTS! The first is a short, depressing drabble.
Title: I Never Wanted To (named for the
song that inspired it, by saosin)
Characters/Pairing: Salem-centric, mentions of Rios, Alice and Jonah.
Rating: PG-13 for character death and swearing.
Summary: It's a hollow victory, at best. (SPOILERS FOR ONE OF THE ENDINGS OF TFD FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T PLAYED, possibly trigger-y, if brief, mentions? Just covering my bases man.)
One bullet. One bullet, and Rios drops to the floor, silent and still. One stupid fucking bullet from his gun-
And Salem's hysterical when he rounds on Jonah, he knows he is, but he doesn't give a flying fuck because this is all his fault in the first place, him and his sociopathic goddamn social experiment. And honestly, in the face of Rios's body growing cold on the ground nearby because of him
(because of me, Jesus fucking Christ, what did I just do)
in the face of just having shot his partner of who knew how long, the one man who he trusted with his life, and who trusted him in turn?
He doesn't even care about the lives he's saving.
He just needs to make sure it was-
(nothing's worth this)
that it was-
(I'm so sorry, God, why)
that it at least had been for
(Tyse)
something.
When the UN soldiers finally arrive, Salem is halfway to deciding to turn the gun on himself and add his body to the count, next to all the innocent civilians slaughtered in this, next to all the mercs they'd gunned down, next to Jonah and Alice and Tyse. Everything passes in a blur of distorted noise, vague shapes and hazy color after that, and he's not entirely sure how or when he got back to his apartment, but finally being home is a hollow victory at best.
He locks the door, shuts all the blinds, and collapses in bed, cocooning himself in the blankets like he hasn't done since he was five.
Hidden from the world, Elliot Salem, hero of Shanghai, cries himself into an exhausted, dreamless sleep.
AND NOW, TO MAKE UP FOR THE DEPRESSING!
I found these two amazing things recently, and I figured I should share them with all those who may not have seen them!
The adorable ambiguous mercs are up for adoption on Squiby (you can get Rios
here, while Salem is
here... but of course you're adopting them together, right?) and they 'hatch' from their masks at level 25 into those chibis up there.
