My first post (and my first tutorial as well, wow!). Here is an easy and short tutorial

From
 to

+ Involves no selective coloring
+ Should be translatable
+ A few steps, that's all it takes!

1 + First, create a new image.
Basic icon's size is 100x100 (but you already knew that, huh?)

2 + Paste your base into a new layer.  Set it to ''Hard Light''. Keep the opacity at 100%
That's how your icon will look like:

3 + Paste your base into a new layer once again. Opacity must be at 56%. Set it to ''Darken''.
Now, it should look like that:

4 + Same thing as usual. Paste your base into a new layer with the opacity at 72%. Set the layer to ''Soft Light''
Your icon is now like that:

5 + Take this:

And paste it as a new layer. Set the layer to ''Overlay'' and keep the opacity at 100%
Your icon should look like that:

And now guess what? You're done!
Here is the icon I ended up with:

You can change the color of step 5 depending of your image.
There's no need to credit a tutorial by the way (just don't take this and post it somewhere else claiming that you made it). But feel free to show your icons to me *giggles* (=^_^=)
I hope that it was helpful!
